Signature Senior Living has signed a $1.4 million contract to have K4Connect technology installed in its communities, reports the News & Observer. It is the tech company’s first major contract, according to the newspaper.

The Raleigh, N.C.-based company’s technology uses the “Internet of Things” and proprietary software to control multiple devices through one app in an effort to benefit residents and community managers. Signature will use K4Community in 10 new assisted living and memory care communities it expects to open in Pennsylvania beginning a year from now, according to the newspaper. The technology will enable residents to remotely control the temperature of their rooms and turn their lights off and on as well as receive medication reminders and communicate via video. Staff can be alerted when residents get out of bed or leave their rooms.

K4Connect is testing its technology in Raleigh-area senior communities and will use that information to fine-tune K4Life, a home management system that will be sold directly to elderly and disabled consumers, the News & Observer says.
