William “Bill” McGinley, who received the American College of Health Care Administrators’ Distinguished Assisted Living Administrator Award in April, has been named president and CEO of the organization, ACHCA announced Thursday.
The appointment is effective Dec. 4.
McGinley’s career spans more than three decades. Most recently, he was executive director of New Pond Village, a Benchmark Senior Living continuing care retirement community in Walpole, MA. He began his career at Greenery Rehabilitation Group, a national presence in the areas of head injury rehabilitation and subacute care, and spent the majority of his career with Salmon Health and Retirement, a family-owned company based in Westborough, MA, that manages independent and assisted living communities, skilled nursing facilities and other aging services offerings. Specifically, at Salmon, he led Whitney Place in Natick, MA, for 17 years, ACHCA said when it announced his award earlier this year. Under his leadership, Whitney Place was the first assisted living community in Massachusetts to be accredited by the Joint Commission. The campus, which also includes a child care center, a skilled nursing center and an adult day care center, had a record 12 consecutive years with no life safety code violations, ACHCA said.

A fellow of ACHCA, McGinley has served as the treasurer for the organization’s Massachusetts chapter and has held several other leadership roles within ACHCA at both the state and national level, including serving as convocation chair and past president.
He holds the certified assisted living administrator credential from ACHCA and the certified director of assisted living credential from the Senior Living Certification Commission. He also is a certified nursing home administrator and certified administrator of subacute care.
McGinley recently became only the third person in the country to earn the health services executive credential from the National Association of Long Term Care Administrator Boards.
He earned an MBA from Boston University with a concentration in healthcare management. In addition to his recent ACHCA award, in May 2010 McGinley was named Outstanding Member of ACHCA.
