Brookdale Senior Living employees, residents, family members and business partners raised more than $2 million for Alzheimer’s disease in 2016, the third consecutive year they’ve generated more than $1 million in donations, according to the company.

“This cause truly is a personal one for our residents, families and associates,” said Sara Terry, Brookdale’s senior vice president of resident and family engagement. “They develop close bonds and see dementia’s effects every day. Many have chosen to work in this field because the disease has affected their family and they want to make a difference for those living with Alzheimer’s and related dementias.”

The funds were raised through participation in local Walk to End Alzheimer’s events; from efforts of home-office associates in Nashville, TN, and Milwaukee; and from company business partners. Brookdale said it is the Alzheimer’s Association’s largest supporter in those two chapter areas and the largest fundraiser nationally.

Since 2008, Brookdale has contributed almost $10 million via the Walk to End Alzheimer’s, according to the company. Its corporate team became the first to reach the $1 million mark in a single calendar year in 2014, earning the company national Diamond Team status from the Alzheimer’s Association, a status it has maintained ever since.
