Shane Goodman, left, and Matthew Kern

The Goodman Group recently announced two appointments.

Shane Goodman has been appointed to chief investment officer and president of JBG Design & Development, and Matthew Kern has been promoted to national director of operations of The Goodman Group’s senior living and healthcare division.

Goodman is the son of former Chairman John B. Goodman, who had led the company since 1976 and passed away March 20 from complications following a heart attack. The younger Goodman had been instrumental in launching The Goodman Group’s Florida-based home healthcare agency, according to the organization.

“Shane is deeply committed to the vision and business strategy that has fueled the company’s success over the years,” said Craig Edinger, new CEO of The Goodman Group. “We are confident Shane’s work will carry forward the Goodman family’s tradition for generations to come.”

He has an undergraduate degree in environmental sciences, policy and management from the University of Minnesota and holds a Minnesota real estate license.

In his new role, Kern will head operations for the company’s 33 senior living and healthcare communities and two home healthcare agencies.

“Matthew’s commitment to best practices and quality assurance, as well as his expertise in The Goodman Group’s operations, will now benefit the organization nationwide,” Edinger said.

Kern previously served for 10 years as regional director of operations for The Goodman Group. In that position, he oversaw 10 properties and two certified home healthcare agencies with 1,200 residents and 1,500 employees.

Before joining The Goodman Group, Kern was the senior executive director of a healthcare company based in Minneapolis. He also was the executive director of an assisted living community and managed home healthcare services.

Kern has an MBA from University of Phoenix. He is certified in long-term care administration from the University of Minnesota and is a licensed nursing home administrator in Arizona, Minnesota and Oregon. Kern is a member of the Care Providers of Minnesota board of directors and previously held a position on its service corporation board and healthcare reform committee. He is a member of the American Health Care Association and the National Center for Assisted Living.
