Independent living, assisted living and life plan communities (also known as continuing care retirement communities, or CCRCs) were among the 55+ housing types recognized Tuesday at the National Association of Home Builders’ 2019 Best of 55+ Housing Awards.

The ceremony, honoring excellence and innovation in the design, development, lifestyle and marketing of communities and homes that appeal to the mature market, bestowed awards during the 2019 NAHB International Builders’ Show in Orlando, FL.

Some of the gold award winners in the competition:

Best 55+ Assisted Living or Special Needs Community: Merrill Gardens at Rockridge, Oakland, CA. The developer and marketing firm was Pillar Properties, the builder was SRM Development, the architect was Urbal Architecture, the interior designer was NAC Architecture, the land planner was Mike Rivera Landscape, and the architect/designer was Weisman Design Group.

Best 55+ Independent Living Community: Province Springs, Colorado Springs, Co. The developer was The Wolff Co., the builder was Colorado Structures, and the architect was LRS Architects. The community is managed by Clearwater Living.

Best 55+ Life Plan Community: Sun City Tower Kobe, Kobe, Japan. The developer was Half Century More, the builder was Kajima Corp., the architect was Richard Beard Architects, the interior designer was BAMO Interior, the merchandiser was Sumisho Interior International, and the landscape architect/designer was SWA.

Additionally, Latitude Margaritaville Daytona Beach was recognized as 55+ Community of the Year. The builder, architect and land planner was Minto Communities, the interior designer was Rhett Alexander and the marketing firm was United Landmark Associates.
