On National Best Friends Day, June 8, two residents of Edgewood Summit senior living community in Charleston, WV, will be marking a friendship of more than 80 years.

Charleston natives Hazel Arnold and Violet Casto have been chums since grade school, but they also were neighbors growing up, living just a few houses away from one another. They shared memories of high school graduation, weddings and even their children being born.

As they grew older, they eventually were separated by careers. But within a few years, they found themselves back in Charleston living on the same street. The two families became even closer, traveling around the country together and sharing life’s experiences.

Now in their 90s, Hazel and Violet continue their friendship, living just feet away from each other at Edgewood Summit. The two women say that community living makes it easier for them to stay active and remain friends.
