It was a first for the Colonial Courtyard at Tyrone — a wedding held on site.

Sam Brisbin, a volunteer dietary aide who also assists with events at the community, and Nancy Hite wanted Brisbin’s mother, Betty, to be a part of their wedding day, so the couple brought their ceremony to her.

They were married Dec. 17 at the IntegraCare senior living community in Tyrone, PA, where Betty Brisbin, 92, has lived for four years. Forty-one people attended the ceremony, including family, friends, residents and staff. AseraCare Hospice of Altoona also was part of the event.

“Mary Emery, pastor from AseraCare, conducted the ceremony,” said Emily Boone, the community’s director of sales and marketing. “AseraCare also provided the cookie trays.”

Lisa Cowan, executive director of Colonial Courtyard at Tyrone, said many of the residents wanted to be sure the day was unforgettable for the 67-year-old groom and 58-year-old bride.

“Our activities coordinator, Debra Webb, and many other team members worked to make the occasion special,” she said. “Debra and our residents made the cake for the reception. The ceremony was a moving and memorable event for all of us.”

Boone added: “Betty is quiet but was visibly happy to be a part of the event.”
