The American Seniors Housing Association has released a fifth edition of “Seniors Housing Guide to Fair Housing and ADA Compliance,” the organization announced Feb. 23.

The 50-page, wholly revised resource for owners and operators “is part of ASHA’s long-standing effort to provide the industry with timely information about evolving issues regarding fair housing and ADA rules, court decisions and interpretations,” according to ASHA President David Schless.

Since publication of the previous edition, the U.S. Department of Justice, the U.S. Department of Housing and Urban Development and other fair housing enforcement agencies and advocacy groups have increased the level of challenges directly affecting seniors housing properties related to allegations of disability discrimination, according to ASHA. The updated guide covers a range of topics for owners and operators, including the Fair Housing Act, the Americans with Disabilities Act, managing seniors housing discrimination issues, advertising, occupancy criteria, access to facilities and services and more. It was prepared for ASHA by Paul Gordon, Esq., of the San Francisco-based law firm Hanson Bridgett.

The publication is available in the ASHA online bookstore. It costs $10 for members and $35 for others.
