Recruiting and retaining qualified healthcare workers continues to be the No. 1 issue facing long-term care operators as the economy begins to recover from the pandemic.

H.R. 331, also known as the Nurses Care Act, if passed, would expand qualifying training for temporary nurse aides, or TNAs, beyond the public health emergency and provide a pathway to permanent employment.

“Extending the waivers for TNA certification would be an immense boost to filling the workforce needs of this industry and ensure that qualified caregivers who meet the requisite competency requirements are able to continue serving our nation’s vulnerable seniors,” Argentum President James Balda recently wrote in a letter to U.S. Rep. Fred Keller (R-PA).

Keller sponsored the bill in the U.S. House of Representatives in January, but no further action has been taken.

Balda said that the Nurses Care Act “is critically needed as the nation recovers from the pandemic and prepares for the growing care needs of our nation’s seniors.”
