Kathryn Roberts, Ph.D.

Kathryn Roberts, Ph.D., president and CEO of Ecumen, assumed the chairwomanship of the LeadingAge Board of Directors on Jan. 1, having served as a board member for seven years.

“I’m excited for this next phase of my relationship with LeadingAge,” she said in a statement. “I am proud of the collective work the board does to support the leadership and members of LeadingAge, and I look forward to transitioning into this role along with our new president and CEO Katie Smith Sloan.”

Roberts has been leading the Minnesota-based Ecumen since 2003 and has guided the company’s transformation from being a nursing home provider to a diversified senior housing and services company. The organization has been named one of the “Best Places to Work” by the Minneapolis-St. Paul Business Journal for eight consecutive years.

Roberts succeeds David Gehm, president and CEO of WellSpring Lutheran Services, who served as board chairman for two years.

“Kathryn is a strong, visionary leader and she is the right person to take LeadingAge into 2016 and beyond,” Sloan said in a statement, adding that Gehm “has done a fantastic job of chairing our board and helping LeadingAge members thrive.”
