Reddy joins NCAL Board of Directors
Thomas Reddy has joined the National Center for Assisted Living Board of Directors as an at-large representative.
Reddy, of Nevada, is the president of TR Development, which offers independent owners and municipalities management and leadership services for the development of senior housing, assisted living communities and nursing centers. He was appointed by NCAL Board Chairman Chris Mason to fill an open seat vacated earlier this year.
Reddy owns or manages seven assisted living communities and nursing centers in Kansas and Nebraska. Three of those communities are owned by the Vintage Group, which he founded and previously owned.
Reddy is a former member of the board of governors of the American Health Care Association — NCAL's sister organization — as its independent owner representative, among other roles. Additionally, he is a former board chairman of the Kansas Health Care Association.
Mary Lynn Spalding first woman leader of Christian Care Communities
Mary Lynn Spalding became the first woman to be named president and CEO of Louisville, KY-based Christian Care Communities, effective July 16. The company defines itself as “Kentucky's largest faith-inspired non-profit providing senior living, home health and dementia support services,” with communities in 11 locations.
Spalding has more than 25 years of experience in services for older adult services. She joined Christian Care Communities in 2009 as director of home- and community-based services, a position in which she led the growth of the organization's in-home healthcare services throughout the state. Most recently, she has served as vice president of innovation and growth and chief operating officer.
Before joining Christian Care, Spalding held executive leadership positions in the home-and-community-based services field with the Visiting Nurse Association, Trilogy Health Services, American Home Patient and Olsten Services. She also chaired the board of directors of the Kentucky Home Care Association.
John Larson named president and CEO of Terwilliger Plaza
John M. Larson has been named president and CEO of Terwilliger Plaza, a senior living community in downtown Portland, OR. He began serving in the role on June 6.
The nine- to 11-member board of directors of the independently governed community, which according to bylaws must be dominated by residents, selected Larson after conducting a nationwide search.
Larson has 28 years of experience in the senior living industry, having previously served in executive roles for other continuing care retirement / life plan communities, namely Holladay Park Plaza of Portland and Mirabella of Seattle. He has been a member of LeadingAge Oregon since 1988 and serves on the CCRC Regulation and Legislative committees. He is licensed as an Oregon nursing home administrator and holds a master's degree in intercultural studies from Columbia International University.
Terwilliger Plaza, an independent community founded in 1958, has a resident population of approximately 350 older adults.
Tana Gall named CEO at Blue Harbor Senior Living
Tana Gall has been named CEO of Portland, OR-based Blue Harbor Senior Living, a subsidiary of Fortress Investment Group, effective July 1. She is leading the operations, business strategy and future growth of the company.
Gall brings more than 20 years of experience in the industry. She formerly was president of two Northwest-based senior living management companies and most recently was a founding partner of a senior living consulting company.
Blue Harbor was founded in 2012 and specializes in managing independent living, assisted living and memory care communities. The company manages 27 communities across 13 states.
Sean Sands named EVP of business strategy and development at Erickson Living
Sean Sands has been named to the new position of executive vice president of business strategy and development of Catonsville, MD-based Erickson Living. He will oversee all aspects of strategy and business development to support company growth and business opportunities.
Sands is a 28-year business and financial services veteran and native of Baltimore. Most recently, he served as the regional vice president and head of the Maryland corporate banking division of Wells Fargo. Before joining Wells Fargo, Sands served as a principal and investment banking professional with SC&H Capital in Sparks, MD. Previously, he spent 10 years as a senior relationship manager in commercial banking with Wells Fargo predecessors Wachovia Bank and First Union National Bank in Baltimore. He began his commercial banking career with First National Bank of Maryland.
“With a projected company investment in excess of $1 billion in new construction over the next five years, Sands' wisdom and expertise will play a key role in helping Erickson Living stay more strongly positioned in the industry than ever,” said Erickson Living CEO Alan Butler.
Sands holds an undergraduate degree in business administration and a master's degree in finance from Loyola University Maryland's Sellinger School of Business. In 2004, he was named one of the Baltimore Business Journal's 40 under 40 business leaders.
Jayne Sallerson named Benchmark executive vice president
Jayne Sallerson has been named to a new executive vice president position at Benchmark Senior Living in which she will oversee sales and operations. The appointment is effective Aug. 22.
Sallerson currently is chief operating officer of Sherpa, a senior living sales conversion and customer relationship management system. During her two-year tenure as COO, the company was recognized as one of the 20 Most Promising Sales Management software providers in the nation by CIO Review, a Fremont, CA-based technology magazine.
Sallerson joined Sherpa in 2014 after serving as executive vice president of sales and marketing for Emeritus Senior Living, before that, as vice president of sales and marketing for Summerville Senior Living.
“In my new position, I will have a unique opportunity to draw from my years of experience at Emeritus as well as the knowledge I gained about what we call ‘prospect-centered selling' during my tenure with Sherpa,” Sallerson said.
Sallerson will continue to be involved in Sherpa, serving on its soon-to-be-announced advisory board of senior living professionals, technology executives and academicians, according to Sherpa CEO David Smith.
Bryan Welty named executive director at Friendship Village of South Hills
Bryan Welty has been named executive director of Friendship Village of South Hills, a Lifespace Communities community in the Pittsburgh suburb of Upper St. Clair, PA.
A native of the local area, Welty is a graduate of Robert Morris University in Moon Township, PA. His career includes service as director of food and beverage operations at the Pittsburgh International Airport and, most recently, as general manager of the Crowne Plaza Hotel Pittsburgh South and the Sheraton Hotel Pittsburgh Airport.
Lifespace Communities owns and operates 12 senior living communities in seven states.
Jennifer Butler named new executive director at Renaissance
Jennifer Butler has been named executive director of the Renaissance in Tampa, FL, which is managed by Allegro.
Butler became interested in senior care more than 20 years ago when dementia symptoms were diagnosed in her grandmother. “I vowed to learn as much as I could about the aging process and ways to create quality of life for seniors,” she said. “At Renaissance, I will be focused on ensuring that our associates create memorable moments for residents and help them to preserve their dignity and independence throughout their golden years.”
Butler joins Renaissance with more than 12 years of experience overseeing independent living, assisted living and memory care communities throughout New Jersey. As a certified assisted living administrator, she continued her education in the senior living industry by obtaining her dementia practitioner certification.
Korey Tibbet named dining services director at The Cardinal at North Hills
Korey Tibbet has been named dining services director at Kisco Senior Living's newest community, The Cardinal at North Hills, set to open this fall in Raleigh, NC.
Tibbet will transition from sister community Woodland Terrace, where he has been dining services director for 16 years, to oversee the operations of both the kitchens and dining areas.
He holds an occupational studies/culinary arts degree from the Culinary Institute of America.
Martin Kent joins Lancaster Pollard as chief credit officer
Martin Kent is Lancaster Pollard's new chief credit officer. Most recently the director of multifamily credit/underwriting for Fannie Mae's seniors housing programs, Kent will provide credit oversight for all the firm's banking activities.
During his 11 years with Fannie Mae, Kent oversaw both the seniors and affordable housing credit functions as a risk manager and, ultimately, as director. In those roles, he structured and underwrote numerous loans and trained and managed underwriters. In addition, he reviewed and updated credit policies for Fannie Mae's Delegated Underwriting & Servicing Guide and approved loans of up to $250 million.
Kent, who will be based in Columbus, OH, has almost three decades of experience in credit policy. Before joining Fannie Mae, he spent 18 years in commercial banking, both at PNC Bank and at Bank of America, as a credit officer for various segments of real estate finance.
Kent earned his undergraduate degree in political science from the University of Maryland. His career also includes service as a staff sergeant in the U.S. Air Force for six years.
Sherill Mason joins MatrixCare Board of Directors
Sherill Mason has joined the board of directors of long-term/post-acute care technology provider MatrixCare. She will advise the company on its strategy and product portfolio as it across the LTPAC spectrum of care.
As principal of Mason Advisors, Mason specializes in the analysis of legislative and regulatory initiatives affecting the post-acute healthcare industry. Before establishing the company, she was a senior policy analyst with Marwood Group, senior vice president of resident care and services for Sunrise Senior Living and a director with the senior care services advisory practice of KPMG.
Mason is a registered nurse and earned an undergraduate degree in American studies with distinction from Eckerd College.
