Susan Misiorski, national director of coaching and consulting services for the Paraprofessional Healthcare Institute, shared PHI’s nine essential elements of quality jobs in assisted living communities, nursing homes and other long-term care settings Nov. 12 at the Massachusetts Senior Care Association’s annual meeting. She also relayed to attendees thoughts on how investing in the long-term care workforce can improve the quality of care for older adults and those with disabilities.
Misiorski delivered her remarks in an afternoon speech that followed a morning keynote speech by Massachusetts Gov. Charlie Baker, during which he supported discussion of career paths that could lead to higher wages for long-term care workers.
The Massachusetts Senior Care Association announced a new “Quality Jobs for Quality Care” campaign at the meeting. It calls for “a direct investment in the nursing home workforce which includes creating a pathway to a living wage, supporting a culture of retention, and establishing a certified nursing aide scholarship program.”
The association’s members include assisted living communities, residential care facilities, continuing care retirement / life plan communities, and nursing and rehabilitation facilities.
