Chicago-based Enlivant Senior Living for the first time was ranked among the top 10 largest senior housing owners in the United States on the 2017 ASHA 50 list.

The American Seniors Housing Association determined this year’s lists of largest owners and operators based on company holdings as of June 1 as well as data from public filings and other sources. Rankings include rent- and entry-fee based independent living units, assisted living beds, memory care units and skilled nursing beds, all offered exclusively for older adults. Enlivant increased its holdings by more than 1,000 units from the previous year’s list, now owning 11,253 units.

Brookdale Senior Living once again topped both the owner and operator lists, although its portfolio size shrank for the second year in a row. The company owns 70,440 units at 835 properties and operates 102,055 units at 1,048 properties.
