Overtime rule could be put on hold today

Oakmont Senior Living in Windsor, CA, was already being sued for understaffing. Now resident plaintiff lawyer Kathryn Stebner is seeking a class-action lawsuit.

This new development comes in the wake of evacuation delay allegations related to last week’s wildfire.

The original lawsuit claimed that Oakmont charges residents for high-end assisted living services but does not provide commensurate staffing levels.

“Former Oakmont employees and current and former residents confirm that there are seldom enough staff in each facility to meet residents’ needs,” according to legal documents.

State officials are now investigating the evacuation from two Oakmont Senior Living communities: Varenna at Fountaingrove and Villa Capri.

A statement from Oakmont claims authorities prevented staff from re-entering the building to evacuate residents.

“Our staff remained in communication with authorities to ensure that all our residents were safe,” said Corporate Communications Director Honey Grace Lopez in a company statement.
