Friendship, a continuing care retirement / life plan community in Roanoke, VA, is celebrating its 50th anniversary by unveiling its new brand.

Friendship is the flagship brand of a family of companies that serve Southwest Virginia communities throughout all sectors of senior and adult living, healthcare, rehabilitation, home health and charitable giving. Friendship divisions now include Friendship Health, Friendship Living, Friendship Foundation and Valley Management.

The organization began in 1966, when Friendship Manor was established and Friendship Assisted Living opened. From there, the organization expanded to include more than 20 buildings with various names housing apartments, rehabilitation services, health services and outpatient therapy. Friendship Manor changed its name to Friendship Retirement Community in 2005.

Although many CCRCs now call themselves life plan communities, Russ Barksdale, Friendship president and CEO, said: “We continue to focus on services, not terminology. Simply put, Friendship provides a belief in living better for everyone. Our services have evolved to become as diverse as the people of all ages that we serve.”
