Health Care REIT formally will announce a name change to Welltower on Wednesday, the Toledo Blade is reporting.

“It’s a name that’s in sync with what’s happening in the health care industry more broadly and reflects the important role we play as the catalyst for funding health care infrastructure,” CEO Thomas J. DeRosa wrote in a letter [PDF] to employees.

The company, based in the Northwest Ohio city, owns more than 1,400 properties in 46 of the United States as well as in Canada and the United Kingdom, according to its website. Most of the properties are assisted living communities and long-term and post-acute care facilities. Its assets exceed $26 billion.
