Westminster, MD-based Carroll Lutheran Village is reorganizing its business structure after almost 40 years in business to create a parent company for two not-for-profit continuing care retirement communities.
Lutheran Social Ministries of Maryland will be the parent of Carroll Lutheran Village, which opened in December 1980, as well as The Lutheran Village at Miller’s Grant in Ellicott City, MD, which opened in February 2016.
“We began working toward this reorganization several years ago, prior to the opening of Miller’s Grant,” President and CEO Geary Milliken said in a statement. “As it was, from the very beginning, Miller’s Grant was a subsidiary of Carroll Lutheran Village. This new structure makes the two communities equals in the eyes of the corporation.”
Milliken said the process was “intentional and diligent” to ensure that all interested parties had input.
The new Board of Trustees for Lutheran Social Ministries of Maryland includes representatives of the 24 Lutheran churches that now are part of the Lutheran Social Ministries of Maryland Corp. Day-to-day management of each community will continue at the community level. The parent company will provide management services and strategic vision, develop long-range plans, forge relationships deemed beneficial to both communities and work to promote operational efficiencies for the entire organization.
Board of Trustees Chairwoman Wanda Lynn said the change also “lays a foundation for future strategic growth without burdening the two existing communities.”
