Senior living professionals seeking to earn the certified director of assisted living, or CDAL, credential will be able to take the exam on demand effective in January, according to the Senior Living Certification Commission, an Argentum subsidiary.

Previously, the exam was offered during specific testing periods throughout the year.

“We received feedback from CDAL candidates who wanted to test but were required to wait several months until the next testing window,” Argentum Vice President of Quality Improvement John Schulte said. “We also heard from candidates who didn’t want to wait months after testing to receive their exam results. The new approach will allow CDAL candidates to test when they’re ready and get their results the same day.”

To date, 74 senior living companies have at least one CDAL-credentialed staff member, according to the commission. As of February, a total of 433 assisted living executive directors had completed the program since its launch.

The program, developed by practicing subject matter experts in senior living, aims to assess and indicate the knowledge and competence of assisted living community executive directors.
