Erickson Living, the American Health Care Association, Capital One Financial, and Walker and Dunlop are four of 150 companies and organizations named to the Washington Post’s “Top Workplaces 2016” list, which recognizes Washington, D.C.-area employers, the media outlet announced Friday.
Erickson Living, based in Catonsville, MD, and operating in 10 states, made the list in the healthcare/senior living category under large employers. The company was noted for its insurance benefits, tuition assistance programs, professional credential assistance programs, public transportation discounts, training sessions and workshops, and nontraditional benefits such as adoption assistance. Erickson Living has 15,000 employees, 2,753 of whom are located in the Washington area, according to the Post.
The media outlet recognized AHCA in the trade association category under small employers, singling out its annual bonus program, through which employees can obtain an amount equal to 9% of their salaries for meeting individual and organizational goals. AHCA, sister organization to the National Center for Assisted Living, has 80 total employees, 76 of them based in the nation’s capital, according to the Post. It is the second consecutive year that AHCA has been named to the list.
McLean, VA-based Capital One Financial was named to the list in the banking and financial services category under large employers. The company was noted for putting employees in charge of product development at its digital innovation labs as well as for offering workers up to $5,000 to pay for college and reimbursement of up to $1,000 for out-of-pocket healthcare expenses. “It will even cover nontraditional procedures such as fertility treatments and gender reassignment surgery,” the Post said. Capital One has 46,900 employees, 4,534 of them in the Washington area, according to the list.
Walker & Dunlop, headquartered in Bethesda, MD, was recognized in the real estate investment category under midsize employers. The firm was lauded for its charitable work to reduce homelessness, having donated more than $160,000 to charities that focus on housing, according to the Post. The company has 502 employees, 172 of them in the Washington area. It is the third consecutive time the company was named to the list.
The survey, conducted in partnership with independent research firm WorkplaceDynamics, asked employees questions about leadership quality, pay and benefit practices and professional/personal life balance issues.
