Five Star Senior Living has launched a program that will use events and other efforts to teach employees how to reduce waste and increase operational efficiencies, with the ultimate goal of establishing a “values-driven culture of collaboration and creativity.” The Green Stars Program, designed by AtSite, builds on the increased efficiencies in the use of energy and other resources that Five Star has seen through several “smart building” initiatives on which it has worked with AtSite since 2012, according to the company.

The operator of 259 communities across the United States says it has implemented energy conservation measures at 84 of its communities and has begun such work at an additional 39 communities. The company is creating a waste reduction program that pertains to trash as well as the reduction of waste of any resource, including water. Additionally, Five Star has begun incorporating technology that monitors energy and resource consumption in real time.
