An Oct. 19 groundbreaking is set for The Spires at Berry College, a continuing care retirement community planned to open in 2020 on 48 acres of the Rome, GA, educational institution’s 27,000-acre campus.

The CCRC, alongside Eagle Lake and at the foot of Lavender Mountain, is expected to be home to approximately 300 older adults, several of them retirees from the college.

“It’s the opportunity to be on a college campus again and really make the most of it – music and arts performances, public speakers, classes, sports events and much more,” Berry College President Steve Briggs said in a statement.

The Spires is expected to take advantage of its location through intergenerational engagement and interaction, involving Berry College students in programming. The college has 2,200 students.
