The NFL Alumni association and Validus, a Florida-based senior living company, broke ground Monday on an assisted living and memory care center specifically geared toward athletes who played in the National Football League.

“This is a historic for the NFL Alumni and Validus assisted living. There are 18,000 former NFL players out there, with a majority of the guys needing help,” NFL Alumni Association Chairman Ron Jaworski said, according to local reports.

The assisted living and memory care community, located in Ocee and expected to open next year, will have 124 units, with licensed bed capacity for 158 residents. It will include a pool, boardwalk, dog park, tiki hut, putting green, fishing pier and water views.

It is the first facility of its kind, but there are 33 others like it set to be built in the next five years.
