Jennifer Harris is executive director at Market Street Memory Care Residence Palm Coast
Jennifer Harris has joined Market Street Memory Care Residence in Palm Coast, FL, as executive director. The 64-unit Watercrest Senior Living Group community is set to open this summer.
After an early career in banking, Harris transitioned to the senior living industry. Over the past 20 years, she has grown from an administrative assistant to an executive director, having served in independent, assisted living and memory care communities. She has managed the assimilation of multiple buildings into one operational campus as well as the opening of a new community on Florida’s east coast.
Terry Hornikel named executive director at Sturges Ridge of Fairfield
Terry Hornikel has been appointed executive director at Sturges Ridge of Fairfield, a Benchmark Senior Living assisted living and memory care community expected to open in September in Fairfield, CT. She brings more than 40 years of senior living and healthcare experience to the position.
A gerontologist and certified assisted living administrator, Hornikel has been an executive director for Meridian Senior Living, Emeritus Senior Living and Kindred Healthcare.
Spring Cypress names executive director, resident care director and sales director
Spring Cypress Assisted Living and Memory Care, set to open later this year in Cypress, TX, has announced new members of its leadership team:
- Calvin Brown, executive director;
- Dianne Davis, resident care director; and
- Tracey Harmeier, director of sales and marketing.
Brown has served older adults in various roles for 27 years, 14 as an executive director of senior living communities. Before joining the Spring Cypress team, he was executive director position at Village on the Park at Steeplechase and The Terrace at Memorial City, both in Houston.
Davis previously worked with older adults as the executive director for The Cottage of Spring Branch assisted living and memory care community in Houston and as the assisted living director for Sagora Senior Living. While in these positions, she supervised facility operations from training and scheduling staff to monitoring facility compliance with Texas Department of Aging and Disability Services regulations. She is a graduate of Joe G. Davis School of Vocational Nursing at Huntsville Memorial Hospital.
Before joining the Spring Cypress team, Harmeier spent several years in various leadership roles at Touchstone Neurorecovery Center in Conroe, TX. While at Touchstone, she generated patient referral opportunities, oversaw daily operations of residential assisted living facilities and managed the center’s budget.
Beverly Bokovitz, DNP, RN, named chief nursing officer at UC Medical Center
Beverly Bokovitz, DNP, RN, has been named chief nursing officer as UC Health’s University of Cincinnati Medical Center.
Bokovitz has worked as a chief nursing executive for more than 15 years, most recently at St. Anthony’s Health Care in St. Louis.
She will oversee patient care services at UC Medical Center and will have oversight of the hospital’s inpatient nursing services. She also will serve as a member of the UC Health Chief Nursing Officer Council and represent the academic health system’s nurses in system-wide initiatives. The academic health system includes the UC Medical Center, West Chester Hospital, Daniel Drake Center for Post-Acute Care, Bridgeway Pointe Assisted Living, University of Cincinnati Physicians, Lindner Center of HOPE and several specialized institutes, including the UC Gardner Neuroscience Institute, the UC Cancer Institute, the UC Heart, Lung & Vascular Institute and the UC Diabetes & Metabolic Disease Institute.
Bokovitz has a master’s degree in nursing from Case Western Reserve University in Cleveland and a Doctorate of Nursing Practice from Waynesburg University in Pittsburgh.
Eduardo Chavez named culinary director at AlmaVia of San Francisco
Eduardo Chavez has been appointed by Elder Care Alliance as culinary director and executive chef at AlmaVia of San Francisco. He joins the team with more than a decade of experience in restaurant, large-scale catering and five-star cuisine.
At AlmaVia of San Francisco, Chavez leads the 15-person culinary team serving daily meals to more than 125 residents and guests. He also creates and prepares menus for a variety of social events hosted regularly at the senior living community.
Before arriving at AlmaVia of San Francisco, Chavez served as the executive chef at Mira Vista Golf & Country Club,. He also worked as banquet chef and senior sous chef at Levi’s Stadium in Santa Clara. There, he oversaw 400 culinary team members and served more than 65,000 fans at each game.
Bonner is first non-physician elected to AMDA Board
Alice Bonner, Ph.D., APRN-GNP, secretary of the Massachusetts Executive Office of Elder Affairs, is the first nurse practitioner to serve on the AMDA–The Society for Post-Acute and Long-Term Care Medicine Board of Directors since the organization opened up its voting membership to advance practice professionals four years ago.
Bonner started attending society conferences some 20 years ago. Recently elected as Board Representative–House of Delegates, her track record with the society includes experience as a speaker, educator, author in JAMDA and Caring, chapter member, state delegate and volunteer.
“Geriatrics and the care of older adults has always been a team sport, even before accountable care organizations and other models,” she said. “The society is demonstrating ongoing leadership regarding the importance of interprofessional teams by having advanced practitioners on the board and recognizing the values that different disciplines bring to the organization.”
Before serving in her current role, Bonner was deputy associate regional administrator for the Northeast region and director of the division of nursing homes in Baltimore for the Survey and Certification Group at the Centers for Medicare & Medicaid Services.
Senior Care Pharmacy Coalition names officers
Fred Burke, a co-founder and president and CEO of Atlanta-based Guardian Pharmacy Services has been tapped to serve as the new chairman of the Senior Care Pharmacy Coalition. The Washington D.C.-based advocacy organization represents the interests of independent long-term care pharmacies and those they serve.
Burke is a co-founder of SCPC and previously served as treasurer and vice chairman. He is the organization’s third chairman — succeeding Phil Fogg Jr., chairman and CEO of Milwaukie, OR-based Marquis Companies and Consonus Health Care, and the founding chairman, Michael G. Bronfein.
Joining Burke on the SCPC Executive Committee are Vice Chair Robert Warnock, senior vice president of pharmacy services at PruittHealth Inc. in Norcross, GA; Treasurer Jeffrey Stamps, president and CEO of Remedi Senior Care in Towson, MD; and Secretary David R. Lewis, president of Consonus Healthcare in Milwaukie, OR.
