HMP Senior Solutions names 3 to C suite

HMP Senior Solutions, Nashville, TN, has announced the expansion of its executive team, appointing three C-suite executives.

Scott Phillips, Mary DePietro and Shawn O’Conner have joined as president and chief executive officer, executive vice president and chief operating officer, and executive vice president and chief business development officer, respectively.

Phillips succeeds Don Vivacca, who will remain at the company as an emeritus member of the board of directors.

Phillips also is the founder and managing director of Healthcare Management Partners. Along with the responsibilities of his new position, he will keep leading financial advisory and expert testimony assignments for all of the company’s clients.

DePietro will direct her energies to facility operations, clinical quality and resident services, working to ensure that all residents or patients receive the best possible care. Before joining the company, she was executive director at Vitality Living/Traditions of Smyrna.

In his new role, O’Conner will be responsible for development and implementation of the company’s “cluster strategy,” an operating structure designed to bring multi-hospital system partners together via a customized nonprofit cluster of focused assisted living communities and skilled nursing facilities. O’Conner also will work with DePietro to set up uniform standards for delivering skilled nursing care across the company.

The Harborside welcomes president/CEO and SVP/general counsel

The Harborside of Port Washington, NY, has welcomed Brooke Navarre as president and CEO and Pamela Landman, Esq., as senior vice president and general counsel. 

Navarre initially joined The Harborside in 2015 as assistant executive director. She then was promoted to executive director in 2017.

Landman, before joining the company, provided legal services as a private practice attorney to Amsterdam Continuing Care Health System and its affiliates, including The Harborside. She was appointed general counsel in 2019.

Jewish HomeLife’s new CEO and president, Jeffrey Gopen, starts

Jeffrey A. Gopen has become the new CEO and president of Jewish HomeLife, Atlanta. As McKnight’s Senior Living previously reported, the appointment follows the retirement of Harley Tabak, who now is CEO emeritus and will retire fully at the end of this year.

Gopen was first recruited to the company five years ago as part of its long-term succession planning. He has much clinical experience as well as excellent leadership capabilities, and he has served in various senior care positions in the Boston area. During his tenure as chief operating officer at Jewish HomeLife, he was interim executive director of the company’s two assisted living communities, its home care agency, and its skilled nursing and rehabilitation center.

Gopen also has a doctor of physical therapy degree and is a licensed nursing home administrator.

Along with the promotion of Gopen, Neelam Rahatekar, current chief financial officer, has been promoted to succeed Gopen as chief operating officer. He has worked at the company for 17 years. 

Masonic Villages announces new chief information officer, Joseph Franco

Joseph S. Franco has joined Masonic Villages of Elizabethtown, PA, as its new chief information officer.

In this capacity, Franco will be responsible for coordinating, planning and operating information technologies and computer programs of the Grand Lodge of Pennsylvania as well as the Masonic Villages. His tasks will encompass setting up policies and procedures for information processing, selecting and evaluating hardware and technology used by the company, and supervising and training others for information technology personnel. Franco also will provide strategic direction for the information technology department.

Franco has 18 years of experience leading IT teams in the senior living industry. Before joining Masonic Villages, he was executive director of information technology at Phoebe Ministries.

Franco has an MBA degree.

Juniper Village welcomes Jimmy Carter as executive director

Jimmy Carter has returned to Juniper Communities as executive director of Juniper Village at Lincoln Heights, San Antonio, TX

Carter previously worked at the community from 2005 to 2011 when it was under different management. In 2021, Juniper Communities took over operating the community.

Carter has an undergraduate degree in healthcare administration from Howard Payne University and three decades of healthcare experience. He is a licensed long-term care facility administrator.

Carroll Lutheran Village appoints new executive director

Scott Edens has joined Carroll Lutheran Village, a life plan community in Westminster, MD, as executive director.

In this capacity, Edens oversees daily operations, including following federal, state and local laws as well as regulations and standards governing long-term care facilities. He also is responsible for the care and customer service that residents receive.

Edens has more than three decades of senior living experience, including planning and coordinating renovation projects for two healthcare campuses and leading three regions of 28 skilled nursing facilities and training supervisory personnel at 24 nursing centers.

He holds a master’s degree in health services administration as well as a certificate in senior living management. 

Diversified Healthcare Trust welcomes David Pierce to board

David Pierce has joined the board of trustees as an independent trustee at real estate investment trust Diversified Healthcare Trust, Newton, MA. With Pierce joining the board, there are now seven trustees.

Since 2018, Pierce has been executive vice president and president of Boston Scientific MedSurg, and he has been president of Boston Scietific’s Endoscopy since 2020. He also has been a director of the Medical Device Manufacturers Association since 2014 and a director of MassMedic since 2020.
