Bernadette Greatorex is new vice president at Maplewood Senior Living

Bernadette Greatorex has been named vice president of sales and strategic partnerships at Westport, CT-based Maplewood Senior Living, which operates 15 senior living communities in Connecticut, Massachusetts and Ohio.

In this role, she will oversee sales initiatives across the company, including strategy development, analyzing, forecasting, resource planning and budgeting.

Greatorex brings almost two decades of experience to the position. Before joining Maplewood, she worked at MedOptions, a provider of behavioral health services to assisted living and skilled nursing facilities. There, she provided supervision to the national sales team that included setting objectives, managing performance and hiring, and training and coaching new employees. She also led performance and career development discussions related to the sales teams.

“Bernadette brings a wealth of experience and expertise to the position, which will help guide the team as we continue our growth into new locations,” Maplewood Chief Operating Officer Shane Herlet said. “Currently, we are expanding our footprint into Southport, CT, Princeton, NJ, New England and into Manhattan, which will feature our newest luxury brand, Inspīr. With Bernadette at the helm of our sales team, we are confident we can better serve potential residents and their families as well as be a valuable resource for them.”

Zachary D. Shephard named executive director at Margaret Pratt Community

Zachary D. Shephard has been named executive director for Margaret Pratt Community, an Enhanced Living assisted living and memory care community opening this year in Bradford, VT.

A licensed nurse, Shephard has more than 13 years of healthcare experience, six of them in senior living, during which time he gained experience as a nurse manager and worked in reimbursement in the nursing home setting. He also is a U.S. Army veteran.

Shephard earned an MBA degree from New England College with a concentration in healthcare management and is a licensed nursing home administrator.

Dan Harrington named executive director at Sedgebrook

Dan Harrington has been named executive director at Sedgebrook, a Senior Care Development-affiliated life plan community in Lincolnshire, IL, that is managed by Life Care Services.

Harrington has more than 30 years of experience in hospitality, operations and marketing, with the past 17 in senior living.

He began his career in hospitality and dining management, working in hotels, resorts and upscale dining venues. In 2001, he ventured into senior living, working in various management roles and eventually serving as district director of operations with oversight responsibilities for nine Chicagoland communities and then, when he missed daily interaction with residents, as an executive director for an area community.

Kelli Hill joins Primrose of Gillette as executive director

Kelli Hill has joined Primrose of Gillette, a Primrose Retirement Communities independent and assisted living community in Gillette, WY, as executive director. In this capacity, Hill is overseeing the day-to-day operations of the community.

Hill studied accounting at Black Hills State University and brings experience in management, sales and accounting to her new role. She also owned a land development company for six years and a coffee shop for three years.

Ryan Barkley joins Windsor Run as director of sales

Ryan Barkley has been named director of sales at Windsor Run, an Erickson Living retirement community in Matthews, NC.

Barkley has more than 12 years of sales experience. For the past seven years, he moved up through the ranks from an associate to sales manager at Riderwood, a sister community in Silver Spring, MD. He previously worked for RE/MAX.

Barkley has an undergraduate degree from the University of Maryland, College Park, and a real estate license. He retains membership in the National Association of Realtors.

Jessica Wunderlick joins Primrose of Council Bluffs as director of nursing

Jessica Wunderlick has joined Primrose of Council Bluffs, a Primrose Retirement Communities independent living and assisted living community in Council Bluffs, IA, as director of nursing.

In this role, she is guiding and overseeing the overall care of residents and, in conjunction with Executive Director Paul Larsen, manage the nursing staff. She also will ensure compliance with all necessary regulations.

Wunderlich has a nursing degree from Nebraska Wesleyan. She has worked in the healthcare field since 2000, working in acute care, case management and nurse education, and she was the director of nursing at Primrose of Council Bluffs in 2015 before transferring to another retirement community.

AMDA’s Christopher Laxton named to Malcolm Baldrige National Quality Award Board of Examiners

Christopher E. Laxton, CAE, executive director of AMDA – The Society for Post-Acute and Long-Term Care Medicine, has been named to the Board of Examiners for the 2018 Malcolm Baldrige National Quality Award by the Commerce Department’s National Institute of Standards and Technology.

Examiners review and evaluate applications submitted for the Baldrige Award and perform other assessment-related tasks.

The award was established by Congress in 1987 and may be given annually to organizations in each of six categories: manufacturing, service, small business, education, healthcare and nonprofit. It is meant to promote innovation and excellence in organizational performance, recognize the achievements and results of U.S. organizations, and publicize successful performance strategies. NIST manages the award in conjunction with the private sector.

“The society and its members place a premium on organizational excellence and innovation in the post-acute and long-term care setting. …It is very gratifying to be able to participate in a presidential-level award program that is focused on performance excellence and innovation,” Laxton said.

The examiner board has more than 300 members from industry, professional, trade, education, healthcare, and nonprofit (including government) organizations from across the United States. All members must participate in a leadership development course based on the Baldrige Framework for Performance Excellence and the scoring/evaluation processes for the Baldrige Award. They also must complete an independent review of a Baldrige Award application or other comparable examiner task.

Erin Ascher is new senior vice president of human resources at Remedi SeniorCare

Erin Ascher has joined Baltimore-based senior living and long-term pharmacy company Remedi SeniorCare as senior vice president of human resources.

In this role, she will be responsible for recruitment, compensation and benefits, organizational development, performance management, compliance and employee relations and engagement. In addition, she will define human capital requirements and programs needed to support the company’s business strategy.

Ascher has more than 25 years of human resources experience. Before joining Remedi SeniorCare, she was chief human resources officer for Gentherm, which operates in 13 countries and employs more than 14,000 associates.

Ascher has an undergraduate degree from Miami University, Oxford, OH, and also earned a master’s degree in personnel and employee relations from Georgia State University, Atlanta.

John Nguyen joins Simply Connect as SVP focused on senior housing

John Nguyen has joined Minnetonka, MN-based care management platform Simply Connect as senior vice president of business development. He will focus on senior housing, according to the company.

Nguyen, who is based in Norfolk, VA, brings more than 25 years of sales management, marketing, networking and business operations experience to the  based company. He joins Simply Connect from Brookdale Senior Living, where most recently he was the divisional director of business development for the South East Division. In that role, he oversaw 17 field business development directors whose coverage area spanned more than 250 senior living communities with more than 20,000 units.

Before Brookdale, Nguyen was the regional remarketing director for Enterprise Rent-A-Car in Long Island.

“His experience in developing high-level collaborations and partnerships will allow us to grow our personal health record and care team management services,” Simply Connect CEO Craig Patnode said. “His knowledge of the senior housing industry, along with his experience as a business owner, provides us with a unique and beneficial view of the opportunities for Simply Connect to grow.”
