Country Meadows names Meredith Mills president and CEO as Michael Leader transitions to executive chairman

Meredith Mills has been named president and CEO of Country Meadows Retirement Communities. Mills moves into the role formerly held by her uncle, Michael Leader, who, after more than 30 years leading the organization has transitioned into a new position as executive chairman.

Mills has held various positions at Country Meadows, including marketing director, campus executive director, vice president of strategic planning and, most recently, chief operating officer. She has a master’s degree in health administration from Pennsylvania State University and an undergraduate degree from Franklin and Marshall College. 

Ultimate Care names Amy Silva-Magalhaes COO

Amy Silva-Magalhaes has been named chief operating officer at Ultimate Care Assisted Living Management.

Before joining Ultimate Care, Silva-Magalhaes was the senior vice president of community operations for Maplewood Senior Living. In addition to her tenure in senior living, her career has included years in hospitality management at Hilton and Marriott hotels.

She was named a McKnight’s Women of Distinction Rising Star in 2020.

Silva-Magalhaes holds an undergraduate degree in business administration from Southern Connecticut State University and a master’s degree in healthcare administration from Post University.

Buckner announces Michael Olmstead as VP, COO

Michael Olmstead has been named vice president and chief operating officer for Buckner Retirement Services.

Olmstead brings 21 years of senior living experience to the company. He previously was vice president of operations for Ascension Living, where he led a team responsible for 34 communities in 11 states and Washington, DC. 

Olmstead holds a certificate in health ministry leadership from Aquinas Institute of Theology, a nursing facility administrator license from McLennan Community College, a Master of Science degree in gerontology from Baylor University, a nursing assistant certificate from McLennan Community College and a Bachelor of Business Administration degree from Baylor University.

Anthem appoints Anna Cusic community relations director

Anna Cusic has been named community relations director for Willowbrook Place, an Anthem Memory Care community in Littleton, CO. 

Cusic brings more than six years of senior living, sales and leadership experience to this position. She previously was regional director at the AFFIX Group in Denver. She also was director of entertainment and programming at HighPointe Assisted Living and Memory Care, Spectrum Retirement Communities, Denver.

Hebrew SeniorLife appoints Ernest I. Mandel, MD, new chief medical officer

Ernest I. Mandel, MD, SM, an assistant professor of medicine at Harvard Medical School, has been named chief medical officer at Hebrew SeniorLife. He also is a clinician at Brigham and Women’s Hospital.

Mandel received his undergraduate degree in chemistry from Harvard University, his medical degree from Yale University and a Master of Science in epidemiology from the Harvard School of Public Health. He completed his residency in internal medicine at Yale-New Haven Hospital, where he also was chief resident. He then completed a fellowship in nephrology at Brigham and Women’s Hospital and Massachusetts General Hospital.

He is participating in the Brigham Leadership Program at Harvard Business School and is an Age-Friendly Fellow in the American Hospital Association’s Next Generation Leaders Fellowship.

Admiral at the Lake introduces Zina Kind as new IT director

Zina Kind has been promoted to director of information technology at The Admiral at the Lake, a Kendal Corp. affiliate in Chicago.

Formerly an IT manager at the community, she has more than seven years of experience..

Kind graduated from DeVry University with an undergraduate degree in technical management and continues to be active in Sigma Beta Delta, a scholastic honor society for students in the fields of business, management and administration.

Riderwood welcomes John Porter as new associate executive director

John Porter has been named associate executive director at Riderwood, a continuing care retirement community managed by Erickson Senior Living in Silver Spring, MD.

Porter, who most recently was director of dining at Ashby Ponds, a sister community in Ashburn, VA, began his career with the organization 15 years ago as an assistant general manager position with Riderwood’s dining services team.

Porter holds an undergraduate degree in business administration and management from the University of Baltimore.

Emerald Heights appoints new wellness programs manager, 2 fitness specialists

Emerald Heights, a life plan community sponsored by Emerald Communities in Redmond, WA, has promoted Alexandra Clark to wellness programs manager and also named two fitness specialists. 

Clark has been working with Emerald Heights for more than five years and previously supervised both the trips/events department and the life enrichment activities department for independent living and the Corwin Center. Before joining Emerald Heights, Clark taught theater and Zumba classes in senior living communities. She earned her degree in theater from California State University, Northridge.

In addition, Katharine Manter and Tanner Bostian have joined Emerald Heights as fitness specialists. 

Manter earned her undergraduate degree in physical education with a kinesiology concentration, followed by a master’s degree in clinical exercise physiology. She also is a certified clinical exercise physiologist by the American College of Sports Medicine.

Bostian is pursuing a degree in exercise science from St. John University and has the goal of earning his master’s in kinesiology. He has a personal training certification through the National Strength and Conditioning Association and earned an aging specialist certification through the American Council on Exercise.

Eagle’s Trace names Scott Marvin to sales team

Scott Marvin has joined Eagle’s Trace, an Erickson Senior Living-managed continuing care retirement community in Houston, as a sales counselor.

Marvin brings more than 18 years of home sales experience to Eagle’s Trace. He is a graduate of Texas Christian University.

Grace Management national director completes EdD

Grace Management’s national director of memory care and life enrichment, Ashlea Smalley, recently completed her EdD in leadership in gerontology. 

Smalley has several certifications in dementia care. She oversees all of the life enrichment programs for The Village Program, the Grace Management memory care program, as well as the assisted and independent living life enrichment programs.
