Dan Hermann to become Ziegler CEO as Tom Paprocki retires

Chicago-based specialty investment bank Ziegler announced Monday that CEO Tom Paprocki plans to retire effective March 31 and that Dan Hermann will add the titles of president and CEO to his current one of head of investment banking.

Hermann’s tenure at Ziegler has spanned more than 30 years, with the last seven as the head of investment banking and a director of the Ziegler Companies. He started as Ziegler’s first financial analyst and built Ziegler’s senior living practice, according to the company.

Ziegler also announced that Kevin Strom and Angelique David will be promoted to executive managing directors effective March 1. They will work closely with Hermann, focusing on capital markets and business operations but having an increased focus on the firm’s future strategy, growth and success, Ziegler said.

Strom will be the firm’s executive managing director and head of Ziegler Capital Markets. He has been with Ziegler for 10 years and more than three decades of total experience. He also has been a Ziegler director since 2015.

David will be the company’s executive managing director, chief operating officer and general counsel, overseeing all of the day-to-day functions of the business. She joined Ziegler 10 years ago.

Kelly Hazlett named HR and organizational development director at Watercrest Senior Living Group

Kelly Hazlett has joined the leadership team of Vero Beach, FL-based Watercrest Senior Living Group as director of human resources and organizational development. She brings more than 15 years of experience in human resources to the role.

In her new position, Hazlett’s aim is to provide expertise in business management, recruitment, goal-setting and mentoring while further establishing Watercrest’s Common Unity program and standards across multiple markets.

Anne Campbell promoted to senior executive director at Juniper Village at Brookline

Anne Campbell has been promoted to senior executive director of Juniper Village at Brookline, State College, PA. Juniper Communities said the role has been newly created role due to the company’s growth.

Juniper Village at Brookline has five buildings containing independent living apartments, two personal care communities and a skilled nursing/rehabilitation and long-term care facility. A short distance from the main campus is a free-standing, purpose-built memory care community.

In her new role, Campbell will be overseeing all campus operations for Juniper Village at Brookline and will continue regional project management for special programs for Pennsylvania. Her responsibilities will include driving improved quality and supporting Juniper standards and programming; troubleshooting performance improvement needs and identifying opportunities at multiple levels; budgets, strategic planning and goal-setting.

Before her promotion, Campbell worked as executive director for 11 years.

Andy Fritz, Michele Schreck have appointments at Solvere’s new Homestead at Hamilton

Andy Fritz (pictured) has been named general manager and Michele Schreck has been named marketing director at Princeton, NJ-based Solvere Senior Living’s Homestead at Hamilton senior living community in Hamilton Township, NJ.

The $59.1 million community is set to open Feb. 8. It includes 96 independent living apartments, 75 assisted living apartments and a memory care neighborhood of 24 apartments.

Fritz brings more than 22 years of experience in all facets of senior living to his position. He holds a master’s degree in healthcare administration from Widener University and is a licensed healthcare professional throughout the state of New Jersey.

Schreck has more than 30 years of experience in independent living, assisted living, memory care and skilled nursing.

Rochelle Balaban named executive director at Rosewood

Rochelle Balaban is now executive director at Rosewood, a life plan community in Bakersfield, CA, owned and managed by HumanGood. She brings more than 20 years of senior living experience to Bakersfield, the majority at HumanGood sister communities in San Diego County.

After earning a Bachelor of Science degree in nursing from the University of Wisconsin-Eau Claire and a master’s degree in aging service management from the University of Southern California Leonard Davis School of Gerontology, Balaban began her career at White Sands La Jolla as a registered nurse. She eventually advanced to become the community’s director of nursing, then served as their administrator, and most recently held the same position at Redwood Terrace in Escondido.

Rosewood is one of 16 Centers for Successful Aging nationwide certified by Masterpiece Living.

Watermark at Vistawilla hires directors in advance of opening

Preparing for the March opening of its newest assisted living and memory care community in Winter Springs, FL, Watermark at Vistawilla, Watermark Retirement Communities has hired Karyn Brinkley (pictured) as executive director, Debbie Mercadante as sales director and Lisa Celona as community life director.

In her role as executive director, Brinkley will be responsible for daily operations and financials as well as working closely with Mercadante to promote occupancy, growth, associate and resident satisfaction and a vibrant lifestyle according to Watermark’s vision.

Brinkley is a licensed assisted living administrator and a certified dementia practitioner with 10 years of combined experience in leadership, consulting, relationship management, sales, marketing and startup operations. She has worked in every level of care in the senior living environment and has served as an assisted living and memory care administrator as well as a director of operations. In addition, she is a consultant and instructor for the National Certification Council for Activity Professionals’ Activity Directors Network, where she helps certify activity directors across the nation.

Mercadante has almost six years of experience in the senior living profession, including four years as a sales director.

Celona will be joining the team from The Watermark at Boca Ciega Bay, a sister community in St. Petersburg, FL. She has been with Watermark Retirement Communities for 11 years, beginning her career as a community life assistant before being promoted to community life director in 2015.

Additional hires include Bob Garcia, maintenance director; Arlene Richardson, program director; Pamela Craft, human resources director and business office manager; and Chester Dibas, dining services director.  

The Watermark at Vistawilla will feature 87 residences available for rent.

Laura Shortt named sales and marketing director at The Residence at Selleck’s Woods

Laura Shortt has been named sales and marketing director at The Residence at Selleck’s Woods, an LCB Senior Living community in Darien, CT, set to open in late 2018.

The community will offer independent, assisted and memory care living residences.

Davis has 10 years of experience in the sales and marketing management within the senior living industry. She formerly was sales and marketing director with Homesteads Assistance Living and most recently was senior community relations director with Maplewood Senior Living at the company’s communities in Newtown and Bethel, CT.

Aileen Murphy named sales and marketing director at Waterstone at the Circle

Aileen Murphy has been named director of sales and marketing of Waterstone at the Circle, an independent living community in Boston managed and operated by Epoch Senior Living.

Murphy has more than 13 years of marketing and sales experience. Before joining Waterstone at the Circle, she was manager of programs and volunteers for a non-profit social and volunteer organization for seniors. Other previous roles include sales and marketing manager for IBM and business development manager for internet company Gomez. Murphy has an undergraduate degree in marketing and communication.

Waterstone at the Circle is part of a larger development that includes a 162-room AC Marriott hotel, retail and dining.

NIC names Mary Ann Donaghy chief marketing and communications officer

Mary Ann Donaghy has been appointed chief marketing and communications officer at the National Investment Center for Seniors Housing & Care, the organization announced Monday.

In her new role, Donaghy will be responsible for continuing to build the NIC brand, supporting NIC’s two annual conferences, expanding the NIC MAP Data Service marketing and sales efforts and increasing the awareness and impact of NIC’s industry outreach.

Donaghy brings more than 25 years of integrated consumer and business-to-business marketing leadership and expertise to NIC. Her most recent role was vice president of marketing at University of Maryland University College. Donaghy also held senior positions with the Bozzuto Group, a Greenbelt, MD-based real estate development, management and construction company; AOL; and H.J. Heinz.

Sue McClure named CEO of GlynnDevins

Sue McClure has been promoted to CEO of Kansas City, MO-based GlynnDevins, an advertising and marketing agency specializing in senior living. She formerly was president and chief operating officer.

Agency co-founders Jim Glynn and George Devins, who previously held the CEO role, will continue as members of the GlynnDevins Board of Directors.

McClure joined GlynnDevins in 2011. Prior to that time, she served in marketing leadership roles at UMB Financial and Sprint as well as two marketing agencies in the Kansas City area.

Adam Zeiger joins Lancaster Pollard as managing director of M&A group

Lancaster Pollard has hired Adam Zeiger as a managing director with the firm’s mergers and acquisitions group. Zeiger will lead business development efforts for the firm’s growing sell-side and buy-side advisory services for seniors housing and care properties.  

Before joining Lancaster Pollard, Zeiger most recently was a senior investment officer at Care Capital Properties, where he led the development and implementation of investment and marketing strategy. Before that, he was a senior vice president of sales at GE Capital.

Zeiger holds an undergraduate degree in accounting from Ohio State University and a MBA degree from the University of Maryland, College Park. He will be based in the firm’s Chicago office.

John Darby named executive director of TORCH

John Darby has been hired as the executive director of the Texas Organization of Residential Care Homes. He will executive the policies of the board to guide TORCH’s continued work and growth.

Darby has two decades’ worth of experience in association management, most recently at the Hutto Chamber of Commerce. He earned an MBA degree at Concordia University and is a certified association executive.

Primrose Retirement Communities announces several appointments

Primrose Retirement Communities has announced several appointments across its portfolio of properties:

  • Katelyn Smith has been named sales director at Primrose Retirement Community of Decatur in Illinois. She studied psychology at Blackburn College and nursing at Richland Community College and has experience in nursing, social work and life enrichment.

  • Belinda Holloway is the new sales director at Sweetwater Retirement Community of Billings in Montana. She has a degree in communications from Montana State University in Billings and has more than 25 years of experience in sales, marketing, and public relations.

  • Kelly Alexander is the new sales director at Primrose Retirement Community of Stillwater in Oklahoma. Alexander attended Northern Oklahoma Community College for general studies and received her nursing degree from Meridian Technology Center. She has been a licensed practical nurse for the past 15 years.

  • Kelly Carlson is the new director of memory care nursing at Primrose Retirement Community of Wausau in Wisconsin. She is guiding and overseeing the care of residents and, in conjunction with the community’s executive director, managing the nursing staff.  She also is tasked with ensuring regulatory compliance.

  • Breeze Skorupski is the new executive director at Primrose Retirement Community of Appleton in Wisconsin, expected to open this fall. Skorupski brings 13 years of healthcare experience with her to Primrose, the last six of which have been senior living-focused.

  • Lynn Smith has been named director of nursing at Primrose Retirement Community of Lancaster in Ohio, an independent and assisted living community with a memory care community expected to open this year. In this role, she is guiding and overseeing the care of residents and, in conjunction with the executive director, managing the nursing staff.  She also is tasked with ensuring regulatory compliance. Smith obtained her associate’s degree in nursing from Hocking College in Nelsonville, OH.  She has 16 years of experience in nursing.

  • Staci Bond is the new sales director at Primrose Retirement Community of Marion in Ohio. She is a graduate of Mercy College of Northwest Ohio and holds a degree in sleep medicine. She has been working in that field since 2011.
