Emerald Communities hires Denisa Feddersen as corporate controller

Denisa Feddersen has been hired as corporate controller at Emerald Communities, a Redmond, WA-based not-for-profit senior housing organization serving Emerald Heights and Heron’s Key. 

Feddersen comes to the role with an extensive background in senior living. She previously worked as the vice president of finance and corporate controller at a senior living community based in California. She also has experience as a certified public accountant, auditor and tax professional. 

Feddersen earned an MBA from St. Mary’s College, a Bachelor of Science in accounting from San Francisco State University, an executive certificate in management and leadership from MIT and aCPA license.

American Senior Communities appoints Arif Nazir, MD, chief medical officer

Arif Nazir, MD, has been appointed chief medical officer of American Senior Communities.

Nazir is a board-certified geriatrician and a past president of AMDA– The Society for Post-Acute and Long-Term Care Medicine; he leads the society’s national Drive to Deprescribe campaign. In March, he received AMDA’s prestigious William Dodd Founders Award for Distinguished Service.

Nazir also is an accomplished teacher, with published research in several peer-reviewed journals. He frequently presents at regional and national platforms on geriatric care issues.

Pennant Group appoints Lynette Walbom chief financial officer

Lynette Walbom has been appointed chief financial officer of The Pennant Group, the parent company of the Pennant group of affiliated senior living, home health and hospice companies, effective May 22.

She succeeds Jennifer Freeman, who has assumed the role of senior vice president of strategic partnerships, where she will focus on forging and growing partnerships with payers and other partners across the care continuum.

Before joining Pennant, Walbom was vice president of financial reporting and tax for Raising Cane’s Restaurants, a national restaurant chain operating in 35 states. At Raising Cane’s, she had broad responsibility for financial reporting, acquisitions, tax, accounting systems and equity management. Prior to Raising Cane’s, Walbom was chief financial officer of a family office with investments in companies in several industries, including financial services, computer services, real estate development and franchising. Walbom began her 23-year career in accounting as a public company auditor at Deloitte.

As for Freeman’s new role, Pennant Group CEO Brent Guerisoli said: “As an increasing share of home health and hospice reimbursement shifts to Medicare Advantage and managed care payers, it is critical that we continue to invest in these areas, and in value-based arrangements. Jenn’s deep experience with payers, including over six years with Molina Healthcare, is perfectly suited for this role, and is an example of putting one of our best people on one of our biggest opportunities.”

Charles E. Smith Life Communities adds Natalie S. West as board chair

Natalie S. West has been named chair of the Charles E. Smith Life Communities Board of Governors.

West is a community leader with more than 25 years of volunteer involvement with CESLC, including service as president of the Women’s Auxiliary and as a board member. Most recently, she co-chaired CESLC’s 2022 Guardian Campaign, raising more than $1.2 million for the organization. Her work in philanthropy also encompasses the Jewish Federation of Greater Washington, Momentum, Norwood School and Tulane University.

In addition to West’s installation as chair, at the board’s 113th annual meeting, the following officers were installed for two-year terms:

JLL hires Jay Wagner, Richard Swartz to co-lead national seniors housing capital markets team

JLL Capital Markets has hired three seniors housing experts within its national seniors housing platform.

Senior Managing Directors Jay Wagner and Richard Swartz, who will co-lead the team, and Senior Managing Director Aaron Rosenzweig will focus on investment sales, joint venture equity and financing transactions throughout the United States.

Wagner, Swartz and Rosenzweig join JLL from a full-service capital markets provider where Wagner and Swartz were co-heads and vice chairmen of the firm’s Seniors Housing group. Rosenzweig served as an executive director within the group.

Louisville, KY, mayor names Pat Mulloy deputy mayor for economic development

Senior living industry veteran Pat Mulloy has been named deputy mayor over the city of Louisville, KY’s Metro Government’s Cabinet for Economic Development. He was appointed by Mayor Craig Greenberg.

Mulloy’s decades in senior living and care have included the top post at three organizations that stretch back to the early days of the sector — Atria Senior Living (1996 to 2000), LifeTrust America (2001 to 2004) and Elmcroft Senior Living (2006 to 2018). He is the immediate past chairman of Argentum’s board.

After graduating from Vanderbilt University Law School in 1977, Mulloy spent almost 20 years practicing law. Additionally, he was the state of Kentucky’s secretary of finance for two years (1992 to 1994).

Mulloy serves on several boards and chairs the University of Louisville Health board. He is of counsel for Wyatt, Tarrant and Combs.

Mulloy was named a McKnight’s 40 for 40 newsmaker in 2020.

Nyeeda Moore wins award from Ohio Assisted Living Association

Nyeeda Moore, the director of nursing at Windsor Heights Assisted Living and Memory Care in Beachwood, OO, has won the Ohio Assisted Living Association’s prestigious Honoring Excellence Award for Outstanding Health Services Director. The annual award honors assisted living professionals who demonstrate vision, innovation, leadership and compassion at their senior living communities.
