Distinctive Development names Christopher Hoard president and chief development officer

Christopher Hoard has been named president and chief development officer at Distinctive Development

Hoard brings more than two decades of executive and management experience in the building and development of senior housing assets, including active adult, independent living, assisted living and memory care communities.

Distinctive Development is the sister organization to Distinctive Living, which operates 26 communities and has 19 projects actively under development through Distinctive Development.

Retirement Unlimited Inc. promotes Jennifer Jones, Ryan Wilson

Jennifer Jones and Ryan Wilson have been promoted at Retirement Unlimited Inc., Roanoke, VA.

Jones, formerly the vice president of finance, is now chief financial officer. She will oversee financials and accounting for the current communities, the business office and accounts payable. She has more than 15 years of accounting and finance experience in the transportation and retail industries.

Jones earned her undergraduate degree from Roanoke College and is a certified public accountant.

Wilson, with almost 15 years of financial and operations experience, has been promoted from chief accounting officer to chief investment officer. He will oversee RUI development and acquisitions as well as RUI ancillary services, including Luxe Unlimited Salon and Spa, Care Impact and Lifeworks Services.

He earned his undergraduate degree in business administration from Wilfrid Laurier University and has a charter professional accountant certification.

Buckner Retirement Services hires Allison Vanderford as senior director of sales

Allison Vanderford has been hired as senior director of sales at Dallas-based Buckner Retirement Services

Vanderford previously worked as vice president of sales for Integrated Real Estate Group in Dallas, managing its Integrated Senior Lifestyles property portfolio. She also has held sales leadership roles at Elan Westpointe (Life Care Services) in New Braunfels, Comfort Keepers in San Antonio and Westminster in Austin, TX. 

Vanderford has an MBA from Avila University in Missouri and a Bachelor of Science Business Administration degree from Drake University in Iowa.

Cabana at Jensen Dunes appoints Lisa Cummins campus executive director

Lisa Cummins will be joining the leadership team at The Cabana at Jensen Dunes, Jensen Beach, FL, as the campus executive director. She will oversee the daily operations of the assisted living and memory care community and help guide the campus into a future life plan community. The community is owned and operated by Convivial Life.

Cummins brings to the role more than 23 years of experience in leading senior living organizations, including assisted living communities, life plan communities and hospice service companies.

Cambridge Court welcomes Carrie Bell as executive director

Carrie Bell has been named the new executive director at Cambridge Court, a Civitas Senior Living independent living, assisted living and memory care community in Mesquite, TX.

Bell started at Cambridge Court in April 2018 as the business office manager and spent three years in the role. In July 2021, she became executive director of another Civitas community before returning to Cambridge Court.

Ingleside at Rock Creek names Jason Basile executive director

Jason Basile has been announced as the new executive director of Ingleside at Rock Creek, an Ingleside life plan community in Washington, DC.

Basile has more than a decade of experience in senior living. He previously was the executive director for the Presbyterian Communities of South Carolina–Columbia, where he oversaw daily operations for the life plan community that serves almost 200 residents.

Basile earned a master’s degree in health administration and policy from the Medical University of South Carolina.

Jackson Creek Senior Living names Keli Childs executive director

Keli Childs has been named executive director of Jackson Creek Senior Living, a Monument, CO, independent living, assisted living and memory care community managed by WellAge Senior Living. In this role, she will oversee Jackson Creek’s day-to-day operations, work to ensure quality resident care and well-being, and provide leadership in staff development and engagement, goal setting and long-term revenue growth.

Childs holds an undergraduate degree in theater arts with a minor in business and is a certified administrator in assisted living.

Kaitlyn Melendy has been named the new life enrichment manager at GreenFields of Geneva, Geneva, IL.

Before coming to GreenFields, Melendy worked as an activities aide for memory care residents in a retirement community in suburban Chicago.

CareTrust REIT announces James Callister to succeed Mark Lamb as chief investment officer

James Callister has been appointed chief investment officer of San Clemente, CA-based CareTrust REIT, effective Dec. 31. He will succeed Mark Lamb, who will be leaving the real estate investment trust after a transition period to pursue entrepreneurial opportunities.

Callister has been executive vice president and secretary at CareTrust since July and before that was general counsel and secretary beginning in February 2021. Before joining CareTrust, he was a real estate attorney and a partner at the law firm of Sherry Meyerhoff Hanson & Crance LLP and, before that, at the law firm of O’Melveny & Myers LLP. 

Callister holds an undergraduate degree in history from Brigham Young University and a law degree from the J. Reuben Clark Law School at Brigham Young University.

Center for Innovation announces combined leadership structure

The Center for Innovation has announced a combined leadership structure for the newly allied Green House Project and Pioneer Network, with executives from both organizations taking on new roles to oversee the continued growth of the long-term care reform groups.

Susan Ryan, a 2021 McKnight’s Women of Distinction Hall of Honor inductee, will serve as the Center for Innovation’s first CEO, bringing her 35 years of experience in eldercare reform — with more than a decade at The Green House Project, most recently as senior director — to the top position.

Penny Cook is now the chief culture officer for the center, with direct oversight of external relationships, including Pioneer’s nationwide network of state-level leaders and volunteers as well as the LinkedUp peer network of Green House adopter organizations. Cook previously was president and CEO of the Pioneer Network.

Marla DeVries is the new chief learning officer for the center, spearheading the nonprofit’s internal and external education programming, including workforce development training, person-directed living certification and leadership coaching classes. DeVries previously held the same position at The Green House Project.

Colleen Kammar will serve as the center’s chief financial officer, continuing a role she previously held at The Green House Project.

Liberty Military Housing names Scott Shanaberger as chief accounting officer

Scott Shanaberger has joined Liberty Military Housing as chief accounting officer. 

Shanaberger began his career as an auditor with Ernst & Young. He has more than 30 years of experience in senior finance and accounting management in the multifamily and senior living sectors. He previously worked in both the public and private sectors, including for companies such as United Dominion Realty, Holiday Retirement and Eclipse Senior Living.

At UDR, Shanaberger was responsible for all aspects of accounting, tax and treasury. At Holiday, he was in charge of all financial matters of the company, including capital structure.  Additionally, with Eclipse, he was one of four founding partners who raised equity and formulated a new senior management company from the ground up.
