Atria Senior Living names chief human resources officer, SVP and VP as it develops middle-market, high-end brands

Louisville, KY-based Atria Senior Living, with more than 225 locations in the U.S. and Canada, has filled three senior leadership positions in preparation for continued growth.

The company has hired Eric Leef as chief human resources officer and promoted Regan Atkinson, a 12-year Atria veteran, to senior vice president of new product development. Additionally, Atria has hired Kelli Corney as its new vice president of strategic marketing and Creative.

Leef will lead the company’s human resources, talent acquisition and training functions, bringing more than 16 years of HR leadership at GE Appliances, a Haier Co., and its predecessor, General Electric. In his most recent role with GE, he led HR support for 8,000 supply chain employees in the United States, Korea and China. Atria has more than 14,000 employees.

Atkinson most recently was Atria’s senior vice president of strategic marketing and communications. In her new role, a new one for the company, Atkinson will drive new product development, including leading Atria’s brand development efforts. Those efforts include a high-end brand being developed with Related Companies of New York in San Francisco, New York and other gateway city market locations. Atkinson also will help Atria develop a new middle-market brand, Gladwell.

Atkinson’s move to her new role led to the hiring of Corney as vice president of strategic marketing and creative, leading Atria’s in-house agency. Corney joins Atria after co-founding Louisville-based advertising agency Mightily. She previously worked at NBCUniversal out of both Chicago and London, working ad sales and creative solutions for Fortune 500 companies.

American Senior Communities announces new CFO, Steve Van Camp

Steve Van Camp has joined Indianapolis-based American Senior Communities as chief financial officer. He brings 25 years of financial executive leadership experience as well as real estate and operational experience.

Van Camp served most recently was CFO of Atlanta-based Consulate Health Care, the largest operator of skilled nursing facilities in Florida.

Van Camp began his career at Ernst & Young. He graduated with an undergraduate degree in accounting from Manchester University and then obtained his MBA from the University of Notre Dame.

WesleyLife announces vice president of philanthropy, Chad Vogel

Charles “Chad” Vogel has joined Johnston, IA-based WesleyLife as vice president of philanthropy.

In the newly created position, he will assist in driving WesleyLife’s growth and development.

Vogel brings more than 20 years of experience in fundraising to WesleyLife. He most recently was vice president of philanthropy and community engagement for YSS, a community-based youth services organization headquartered in Ames, IA. Before that, he was associate dean of development for the College of Agricultural, Consumer, and Environmental Sciences at the University of Illinois.

He holds undergraduate and graduate degrees from Dakota Wesleyan University and expects to complete his doctoral dissertation in December.

Healthcare Management Partners adds Don Bivacca managing director

Don Bivacca has joined Nashville-based turnaround and consulting firm Healthcare Management Partners as a managing director.

He will serve HMP clients nationally from the company’s headquarters and specifically will be tasked with furthering HMP’s assisted living and skilled nursing facilities management practice.

Bivacca has more than 30 years of experience driving operation of healthcare organizations. He has spent most of his career in C-suite and senior leadership positions, including work at Capella Health, LifePoint Health and HCA.

Bivacca has an MBA from Nova Southeastern University, Fort Lauderdale, FL, and a Bachelor of Science in Business Administration degree from Bloomsburg University, Bloomsburg, PA. 

MBK Senior Living welcomes Kristen Curran-Brookham as regional sales director

Kristen Curran-Brookham has been named regional director of sales at Irvine, CA-based MBK Senior Living, a provider of independent, assisted living and memory care communities throughout the Western United States. She will oversee the sales and marketing efforts of the company’s nine Colorado and Utah communities.

Curran-Brookham left clinical nursing 13 years ago to accept a position as a director of resident care at a senior living community. Over the course of her career, she has supported independent, assisted living and memory care communities in 15 states and held the roles of executive director, regional director of sales and marketing, regional director of resident care and director of resident programming.

Watercrest Senior Living Group welcomes Carlos Keith as sales specialist

Carlos Keith has joined the executive leadership team of Vero Beach, FL-based Watercrest Senior Living Group in the role of sales specialist.

He supports sales and marketing leadership for all senior living communities owned and operated by the organization, assisting with coaching and onboarding new community relations directors, and preparing new community sales offices to ensure successful openings.

Keith has 20 years of multi-faceted expertise in sales and marketing. He joined the senior living industry 10 years ago after working in banking and pharmaceuticals. Since working in the industry, he has developed high-performance teams while serving in all aspects of senior living, including independent living, assisted living, memory care, continuing care retirement communities and skilled nursing facilities.

Laketown Village names Matt Ritter executive director

Matt Ritter is the new executive director at Laketown Village, a Pegasus Senior Living assisted living and memory care community in Kenner, LA.

Ritter will oversee the community’s operations and services while working to ensure resident, associate and family member satisfaction.

He has been in the senior living industry for more than 10 years, having held managerial positions in several communities since 2010 and since 2016 serving as executive director in assisted living and memory care communities in Stephenville and Austin, TX.

Waltonwood Ashburn announces new resident care manager, memory care coordinator

Maria Cressida R. Manalo is the new resident care manager, and Megan Mastre is memory care coordinator, at Waltonwood Ashburn, an independent living, assisted living and memory care community in Ashburn, VA.

Manalo brings more than five years of experience in senior living to her new role. Previously, she was a charge nurse, RN supervisor, and most recently a director of nursing service.

Mastre has almost 15 years of senior living experience. After receiving a practical nursing degree and becoming a certified nursing assistant, she has spent many years in assisted living and memory care and has worked in hospitals, rehabs and senior living communities. In her most recent position, she was the director of health and wellness, and she directly oversaw care of assisted living residents. In her new position at Waltonwood Ashburn, she will be managing all memory care units and will become the frontline person for the residents, the medical staff and memory care team members.

Bartels Lutheran Retirement Community welcomes new chaplain, Pastor Mike Blair

Pastor Mike Blair has been named the new chaplain at Bartels Lutheran Retirement Community, Waverly, IA, to serve residents, families and staff member.

He will be joining the campus Dec. 15.

Blaier has been serving the Luther College college community in Decorah, IA, for the past 28 years.

BHI names Andrea S. Kantor head of healthcare and new not-for-profit division

Andrea S. Kantor has been appointed head of healthcare and not-for-profit at New York-based BHI, a full-service commercial bank that is the U.S division of Israel-based Bank Hapoalim.

She will oversee a team of specialized professionals delivering financing and banking solutions to BHI clients in the senior housing sector, as well as lead the practice in expanding to other healthcare related areas. She also will develop BHI’s line of business targeting not-for-profit clients, such as those within the social service organizations, schools, cultural institutions and charities sectors.

Kantor has more than 25 years of experience in the financial industry, including more than 10 years in leadership roles focusing on healthcare and not-for-profit clients, and she has worked closely with senior management on philanthropic priorities. Most recently, she was senior vice president and group head for healthcare, education and not-for-profit banking at IDB Bank. She also held the position of area manager for government and not-for-profit business banking and led the healthcare and not-for-profit credit team at JP Morgan Chase.

Kantor earned her undergraduate degree in economics from Tufts University.

Treehouse Real Estate Investment Trust hires David Smith as CFO

David Smith, formerly executive vice president and chief financial officer at New Senior Investment Group, has been named to the same roles at Los Angeles-based Treehouse Real Estate Investment Trust, a privately held real estate investment trust that owns a net leased portfolio of cannabis-related real estate.

In his new role, Smith will be tasked with building out Treehouse’s platform for accounting, tax, finance and investor relations.

Smith has more than 15 years of real estate experience. Most recently, he was with New Senior Investment Group from January to September. Prior to that, Smith was a managing director in the Private Equity Group of Fortress Investment Group from 2014 to 2018, where he led capital markets and investor relations activities for New Senior Investment Group. Before Fortress, Smith held various finance, capital markets and investor relations roles at Ventas and Aviv REIT, after beginning his career in the real estate investment banking group at A.G. Edwards.

Smith earned his undergraduate degree with honors in finance at the University of Wisconsin-La Crosse.

NPRA appoints national director of operations and development, Millie Abrams

The Gilbert, AZ-based National Placement & Referral Alliance has appointed Millie Abrams as national director of operations and development.

The organization is a national alliance of agents and care providers working to facilitate change in the senior placement and referral industry. “We expect to grow the organization and continue to be change agents in the industry,” said Chuck Bongiovanni, NPRA national board president.

Abrams has more than 20 years of experience, including four years managing the national paid partner sales and marketing department of a large senior living corporation. She has an undergraduate degree in business administration from the University of Tennessee.

The NPRA has chapters in Phoenix, Tucson, Dallas/Fort Worth, Denver, San Diego and Orange County, CA, with chapters launching soon in Sacramento and Los Angeles and plans to form more chapters over the next 18 months, including in North Bay CA; Charlotte, NC; Atlanta, Orlando; Melbourne, FL; Houston and New England.

Triple S CEO Alan E. Sadler announces retirement

Alan E. Sadler, CEO of Billerica, MA-based Triple S and president of Triple-S Holdings, has retired.

Dutch Owens, chairman of Triple S and owner of Gem Supply Co. Orlando, praised Sadler’s “outstanding leadership, and accomplishments” in his 22 years of service.

Sadler will remain in an advisory capacity. C. Eric Flinton, president of Triple S, has been named president of Triple-S Holdings.

Triple S is a national distribution services and logistics company that provides facility maintenance solutions to the healthcare, education, commercial, retail, government and building services contractor markets.
