Presbyterian Senior Living promotes Dan Davis to CEO
Dan Davis has been named president and CEO of Dillsburg, PA-based Presbyterian Senior Living, effective Nov. 1. He will succeed James Bernardo, who is retiring.
Davis has more than 30 year of experience in aging services and is a licensed nursing home administrator. He currently is PSL’s senior vice president and chief operating officer. He was selected for the new post after a nationwide search by global executive recruitment firm WittKiefer.
Davis has served on the board of directors for LeadingAge PA and Forgotten Voices International.
Hebrew SeniorLife President and CEO Louis Woolf to retire in 2023
Louis J. Woolf, president and CEO of Harvard Medical School affiliate Hebrew SeniorLife, has announced that he will retire at the end of June 2023. Former HSL Board Chair Jeff Brucker, chairman of the Governance Committee, is leading the search for his replacement.
Since 2009, Woolf has led the Hebrew SeniorLife system, which includes continuing care retirement communities NewBridge on the Charles in Dedham, MA, and Orchard Cove in Canton, MA; Hebrew Rehabilitation Center in Boston and Dedham, MA, three senior supportive housing communities; outpatient and home- and community-based services; the Hinda and Arthur Marcus Institute for Aging Research; and a geriatric workforce teaching program.
Early in the COVID-19 pandemic, Woolf worked with the Massachusetts Senior Care Association to create and implement a statewide training and accountability program that had a notional impact. During his tenure, he oversaw a period of steady revenue growth from $150 million to $248 million, and he increased HSL’s consolidated investment pool from $117 million to $198 million. This growth supports an array of new clinical and research initiatives, as well as new and expanded senior living communities.
Notable organizational accomplishments, according to Hebrew SeniorLife:
- Establishing the Deanna and Sidney Wolk Center for Memory Health.
- Opening a community-based hospice service for the local Jewish community.
- Establishing a palliative care program, renovating the Hebrew Rehabilitation Center-Boston’s Berenson Allen building.
- Establishing the Marcus Institute Interventional Studies in Aging Center.
Accomplishments related to expanding housing options for seniors:
- Overseeing the opening of NewBridge on the Charles CCRC.
- Receiving financing to build a neighborhood community center.
- Adding new affordable senior housing at the Smon C. Fireman Community in Randolph, MA.
- Building the first affordable senior housing building in the Upham’s Corner neighborhood in Dorchester, MA.
Accomplishments related to fundraising and grants:
- A grant from the Massachusetts Health Policy Commission for the Right Care, Right Place, Right Time initiative.
- A National Institute on Aging grant to lead a nationwide effort to improve healthcare and quality of life for people living with Alzheimer’s disease and related dementias.
- Naming the Hinda and Arthur Marcus Institute for Aging Research.
- Launching the Age of Opportunity campaign, the organization’s largest fundraising program.
Woolf began his career in consumer packaged goods management with Gillette and in 1985 founded the Horizon Management Group to offer a full range of services for financing, management and marketing new business initiatives.
He served in leadership roles in the CareGroup Healthcare System, including chief operating officer of New England Baptist Hospital and senior vice president of network development and communications for CareGroup. He also served in the Partners Healthcare System as executive vice president and chief operating officer of North Shore Medical Center.
Arete Living announces chief development officer, VP of asset management and business development
Wilsonville, OR-based Arete Living, a new spin-off that manages about 30 communities for Avamere, has announced Arete Living Development, the senior living management and development organization’s team of developers focused on expanding the company into new markets and spearheading updates to senior living communities. The department will lead project management, market research, leasing, design and more.
Chief Development Officer Albert Castaneda has worked for the organization for eight years, starting with the Avamere Living Community-Based Care. He oversees the development, construction and integration for Arete Living communities.
He previously held director positions at Deacon Construction, Windsor Healthcare and Encompass Development Services.
Castaneda will continue his role at Point Development Co. in addition to working for Arete Living.
Vice President of Asset Management and Business Development Melanie Mooney has more than nine year of experience in the senior living industry, with more than 15 years of experience in management, accounting and finance. She has expertise in asset and portfolio management, real estate, financial analysis and reporting, operations, sales and leadership.
Mooney has worked for Avamere communities, now managed by Arete Living, as a regional director of operations.
Senior Lifestyle promotes Peter Kravaritis to VP of asset management
Peter Kravaritis has been promoted to vice president of asset management for Chicago-based Senior Lifestyle.
He previously had been director of asset management for five years, during which time the company’s properties grew from three to 20, including an acquisition of 11 properties earlier this year. Before Senior Lifestyle, Kravaritis was an asset manager at JPMorgan.
In his new role, Kravaritis will expand his responsibilities from managing the company’s largest investor relationships to assisting the entire asset management team. He will prioritize building out and streamlining the standardized reporting process and guide the team in assisting operating partners facing challenges such as staffing, supply chain and consumer expectation shifts.
Sonata Senior Living welcomes Stephanie Braudrick as VP of sales
Stephanie Braudrick has been named vice president of sales by Orlando, FL-based Sonata Senior Living. An industry veteran with more than two decades of experience in senior living, Braudrick will work to improve occupancy across the organization’s portfolio.
Braudrick has held sales leadership roles in all aspects of senior living and care, including national third-party referral providers, home health and hospice organizations. She has expertise in sales management and revenue transformation.
Before joining Sonata, Braudrick held multi-site leadership roles with Holiday Retirement, Elmcroft Senior Living and Emeritus Senior Living. She also held leadership roles with A Place for Mom and Caring.
Legend Senior Living promotes Wendy Dotson to regional director of sales
Wendy Dotson, a corporate sales specialist for Wichita-based Legend Senior Living, has been promoted to regional director of sales – North Florida for the company.
She will be responsible for implementing and executing the sales process as well as training, developing and coaching at communities in the region.
Dotson spent nine years as sales director for The Windsor of Ocala, a Legend assisted living and memory care community. There, she was a preceptor for new sales directors and saw to the daily planning and implementation of sales and marketing programs. She subsequently was promoted to the position of corporate sales specialist and assisted the sales process in targeted communities as well as with training and mentoring new sales directors.
Watercrest welcomes Marsha Sottung as executive director
Marsha Sottung has been named executive director of Watercrest Richmond, a Watercrest Senior Living assisted living and memory care community that is expected to open this fall in Moseley, VA.
Sottung became the youngest assisted living administrator in New York when she was 21. Over the past 30 years, she has served in various roles as a certified nursing aide, operations director and regional manager. She is a certified dementia practitioner, assisted living preceptor and assisted living administrator.
Watercrest Richmond is the first senior living development project partnered between Watercrest and Harbert Seniors Housing Fund II.
Nazareth Home names Carrie Burns new director of development
Carrie Burns has been named director of development by Louisville, KY-based Nazareth Home. She will lead the organization’s efforts to further develop the Nazareth Homes Foundation.
Burns brings more than 20 years of nonprofit experience to the position, having worked in leadership roles with nonprofits including the Kentucky Humane Society, St. Paul Methodist Church, the National Multiple Sclerosis Society and more. She most recently was the vice president of development for Wesley Manor, a retirement community affiliated with BHI Senior Living.
Brookdale CEO named to 2022 Most Admired CEOs list
Brookdale Senior Living CEO Lucinda “Cindy” Baier has been named to the Nashville Business Journal’s 2022 list of Most Admired CEOs for the third time.
Nominations are made by the public, grouped by company size and type, then voted on by their peers. The highest-scoring CEOs make the list of honorees.
Baier is a certified public accountant who spent her early career with one of the nation’s largest public accounting firms. The next 25-plus years of her career included multi-industry experience split between operating and finance in a variety of companies before she made her way to Brookdale.
She was the company’s chief financial officer before taking the helm at Brookdale. She has served as president, CEO and a member of the board of directors since 2018. Earlier this year, she published her first book, “Heroes Work Here: An Extraordinary Story of Courage, Resilience, and Hope from the Front Lines of COVID-19.”
Women Corporate Directors presents award to Ventas’ Debra Cafaro
Ventas Chairman and CEO Debra A. Cafaro accepted the Women Corporate Directors 2022 Visionary Award for Strategic Leadership at the organization’s recent 11th Annual Visionary Awards Celebration and Gala.
WCD is a global membership organization and community of women corporate directors with 2,500 members serving on 8,500 boards around the world.
The Strategic Leadership award acknowledges a woman deemed to demonstrate leadership through innovation, board and management team diversity and the successful pursuit of long-term strategic growth while developing programs to mentor and promote female employees. The WCD Visionary Awards celebrate individuals who show a commitment to diversity, inclusion and women’s authority in the boardroom. Cafaro was unanimously selected for the award for her leadership, sustained company success, ethical standards and focus on industry and community partnerships.
Since being named CEO of the Chicago-based real estate investment trust in 2000, Cafaro has increased market capitalization from $200 million in 2000 to $25 billion in 2022. She also established the REIT as an industry leader in environmental, social and governance matters, and she fosters a culture that prioritizes recruiting, developing and retaining a diverse workforce.
Lenbrook names three new members to board of directors
Atlanta-based Lenbrook has named three new board members: Sarah Batts, Huanbiao Mo, PhD, and Phillip Searles.
Batts is senior vice president of the office of advancement and executive director of the Shepherd Center Foundation. She is responsible for all brand, strategic partnership, professional education, injury prevention, community relations, fundraising and volunteer endeavors at the foundation. Before joining Shepherd Center, Batts was with Piedmont Healthcare Foundation.
Mo is dean of the Byrdine F. Lewis College of Nursing and Health Professions at Georgia State University. He has advanced the college’s reputation for excellence in preparing the next generation of health professionals and scholars to enter the healthcare field.
Searles is president of the Beverly J. Searles Foundation. He is knowledgeable about financing options, including tax credit deals and the use of government agencies to help provide housing for homeless veterans. He also has helped develop retirement communities for older adults on fixed incomes.
Ventas appoints Sumit Roy to board of directors
Realty Income Corp. President and CEO Sumit Roy has been appointed as an independent member of the Ventas board of directors, effective Oct. 1. He also will serve on the Chicago-based real estate investment trust’s investment committee.
At Realty Income, Roy was appointed CEO in 2018 after having been named president in 2015. He previously was the company’s chief operating officer, chief investment officer and chairman of the investment committee.
Before Realty Income, Roy was an executive director at UBS Investment Bank, where he was responsible for more than $57 billion in real estate capital markets and advisory transactions.
Ventas also announced that Robert D. Reed, who has served as a director since 2008, will retire from the board.
With Roy’s appointment, the Ventas board expands to 12 directors, 11 of whom are independent.
IHCA/INCAL elects board of directors at annual convention
The Indiana Health Care Association / Indiana National Center for Assisted Living announced the results of its board of directors election for the 2022-2023 term during its annual meeting.
CarDon & Associates CEO Kent Rodgers was elected chair, and Trilogy Health Services Chief Administrative and Compliance Officer Michael Bryant was named chair-elect. Miller’s Health Systems CEO Pat Boys was re-elected secretary, and Adams Health Network Chief Financial Officer Dane Wheeler was re-elected treasurer.
New members joining the board are Priority Health Group Vice President of Operations Gabriel Sebbag, The Strategies Chief Development Officer Jeff Huffman, TLC Management President Ryan Ott and Trilogy Health Services Executive Vice President/Chief Operating Officer Todd Mehaffey.

UVM Health Network names Sunil Eappen next leader
Sunil “Sunny” Eappen, MD, MBA, has been named president and CEO of the University of Vermont Health Network, effective Nov. 28
Eappen, who is coming from Brigham and Women’s Hospital in Boston, where he is chief medical officer and senior vice president, will lead the organization in the next phase of its evolution into a more integrated and equitable health system. He will be responsible for oversight of all operations, including the flagship academic medical center, five community hospitals, children’s hospital, multi-specialty physicians group, and home health and hospice agency. The network’s Alice Hyde Medical Center includes a 30-bed assisted living community.
Eappen will succeed John R. Brumsted, MD, who is retiring after leading the health system for more than 10 years.
Catamount Constructors hires Emily Livorsi as VP of people
Emily Livorsi has been named vice president of people for Catamount Constructors of Denver, which serves the senior living industry and other industries.
Livorsi has more than 14 years of experience in management consulting, human resources technology and coaching programs. In a previous role, she was hands-on in creating some of Catamount’s leadership programs and trainings.
Livorsi will lead Catamount’s people programs, including overseeing cultural health, internal leadership development, human resources and recruiting. She will work closely with current Director of People Ellen Towne as she transitions into special projects management.
