The Buckingham senior living community recently observed the start of construction of 183 new residences at its Houston campus with a ceremonial “dirt-turning” celebration. Once completed in 2017, the $72 million construction project will provide resort-style living for nearly 200 additional residents.
“Houston is the fourth-largest city in the nation,” said Julie Fenske, executive director of The Buckingham. “I am so pleased that this expansion will allow us to offer the exceptional services and quality care that our residents have come to appreciate to more area seniors. We’ve had a standing waitlist for some time. We are all very excited that our waitlist has now turned into our future resident list.”
The Buckingham currently has 205 independent living residences, 43 private assisted living apartments, 16 private memory support apartments and 60 private skilled nursing suites. It acquired six additional acres to accommodate the project and will add 106 independent living apartment homes, 27 assisted living suites, 18 memory care residences, 32 private skilled nursing rooms, additional underground parking and more surface-level spaces. The new independent living apartment homes will be offered in one-, two- and three-bedroom floor plans.
Greystone Development Co. is the development consultant for the expansion project. The D2 architect firm will design the expansion. Other project partners include Andres Construction, Kimley-Horn and Bridget Bohacz & Associates.
