Members of the National Center for Assisted Living have two main goals today and tomorrow when they meet with members of Congress in the nation’s capital.

One goal is to simply educate members of Congress on what assisted living is, Rachel Reeves, NCAL’s director of communications, told McKnight’s Senior Living. “We hope members will use this opportunity to invite their representatives and senators for a tour of their facilities when they come back to their districts, so they can see the services we provide first-hand,” she said.

Additionally, NCAL members will be discussing the final rule on home- and community-based services, if they are Medicaid providers. “While this is a final rule already under implementation, we feel it’s important that members of Congress understand what’s at stake should the Centers for Medicare & Medicaid Services issue further guidance that might prohibit certain assisted living communities from the Medicaid waiver program,” Reeves said.

The Congressional Briefing event also includes members of the American Health Care Association. Issue briefs and other materials available to AHCA/NCAL members related to the event have been posted online.
