Elizabeth “Lizzy” Straus has strong roots in philanthropy. Growing up, she often volunteered in her family’s business in senior care.
She took her passion for giving her time and caring for seniors and put it into her career. Straus now is CareOne’s executive vice president and the special projects director for charitable giving and events.
Since joining CareOne in 2007, she has overseen the completion of eight skilled nursing and assisted living facility renovation projects totaling more than $20 million. She is responsible for clinical services, finance, plant/facility operations, and the business development and marketing of more than 60 skilled nursing facilities and assisted living communities in Connecticut, Maryland, Massachusetts, New Jersey, Pennsylvania and Virginia. In total, she oversees 10,000 employees.
As the director of charitable giving and events, Straus has helped CareOne generate more than $10 million for events and organizations. She has directed fundraising efforts and events benefitting employees affected by Hurricane Sandy and the Boston Marathon bombings, as well as raised money for The Valerie Fund and for families in Puerto Rico affected by Hurricane Maria. Most recently, she called on her employees to help raise funds for those affected by the Tree of Life Synagogue massacre in Pittsburgh. Within one week, the CareOne community raised $30,000 for the victims and various Jewish charities.
With all of her work, CareOne was recognized as one of New Jersey’s “Most Giving” companies in “New Jersey Monthly” magazine in July 2014.
