Meg Lutze
Meg Lutze

Margaret “Meg” Lutze became intrigued with end-of-life care at her first job out of college.

After graduating from Tufts University with an undergraduate degree in sociology, she began working at Mystic Valley Elder Services in Malden, MA, as a home care case manager. She managed a caseload of 90 clients and went on home visits to low-income older adults, assessing how those who wanted to stay in their homes could do so as safely and for as long as possible. During her time there, she worked with area hospices and developed a passion for the work.

She eventually applied for a position at Good Shepherd Community Care hospice, where she was hired as coordinator of outreach and administration in 2003. Within a year, she was promoted to director of administration. During this time, Lutze also completed a master’s degree in gerontology, specializing in the management of aging services, from the University of Massachusetts-Boston. She is now the chief operating officer at Good Shepherd, where she oversees more than 175 employees and the care of 250 patients.

In addition to her work at Good Shepherd, Lutze is a mother of three and is chairwoman for the quality, regulatory and compliance peer group of the Hospice and Palliative Care Federation of Massachusetts. In that role, she helps educate other hospices and works with state regulatory agencies to understand the effects of their decisions for people in hospice.
