Residents of the Residence at Presque Isle Bay, an IntegraCare-operated personal care and memory care community in Erie, PA, and their families were able to enjoy the uncommon opportunity of seeing a fleet of tall ships navigate Lake Erie on Aug. 25.

The community held an event to coincide with the arrival of the historic vessels on Pennsylvania’s only port to the Great Lakes.

“We decided to host our own tall ships event because we feel it is important to celebrate the wonderful things in life and share experiences,” said Betty Clark, executive operations officer at the Residence at Presque Isle Bay.

The community’s event also included a fried chicken picnic.

The Residence at Presque Isle Bay has a panoramic view of Lake Erie, which provided a perfect vantage point to watch the Parade of Sails. The ships entered the bay and sailed past the community’s rear courtyard.

A tall ship is a large, traditionally rigged sailing vessel, such as a topsail schooner, brigantine or brig.

“The festival is so important to the region,” Clark said. “The Residence at Presque Isle Bay is proud to hold our own gathering for our residents and their family members to coincide with such a great event in Erie.”
