The Village at Gainesville, an independent living, assisted living and memory care community in Gainesville, FL, recently donated a truckload of used appliances from its residences to the Bread of the Mighty Food Bank.

The appliances, which included refrigerators, stoves, microwaves, washers and dryers, will be given to those in need through a partner agency of Bread of the Mighty.

“We recently gave a stove and refrigerator to a family with several children,” said Loretta Griffis, Bread of the Mighty director of community outreach. “They had previously been using a hotplate and cooler for their food. The mother said that was the first time in over a year the family had a fully cooked meal. This generous contribution by The Village will benefit families like this.”

The partnership between The Village and Bread of the Mighty began in 2015, when The Village was looking for something to do with their used appliances that needed to be replaced.

“A core belief of The Village at Gainesville is every day is an opportunity to serve,” said Joshua Fuller, facilities manager at The Village and a volunteer board member for Bread of the Mighty. “As a part of the larger Gainesville community, we view it as our responsibility to give back and to help those in need.”
