In celebration of Mother’s Day and in an effort to raise funds for charity, Maravilla at the Domain hosted a fashion show and luncheon last week featuring apparel from Chico’s.

More than 75 residents, family, prospects and staff members took part in the event at the Austin, TX, senior living community. Participants enjoyed lunch while watching the resident models — many grandmothers and mothers — strut the runway showing off the latest styles for summer. Maravilla residents Georgia Strickland and Carlene Jenkins, both long-time veterans of the fashion industry, co-hosted and organized the show. Several local businesses, including the women’s boutique Lilly Pulitzer, also pitched in to provide swag bags and other treats for attendees.

The event helped Maravilla raise $1,155, which will be distributed evenly between three charities selected by Maravilla residents: Austin Pet’s Alive, Power of Parkinson’s and GlobalGiving Ukraine Crisis Relief Fund. In support of Ukraine, the models walked the runway holding sunflowers, Ukraine’s national flower and a symbol of peace, to honor the lives lost and hope for resolution and peace in the region.

“Having previously worked in the fashion industry for more than 30 years, the Maravilla at The Domain fashion show was the perfect opportunity for me to relive my days of styling,” Jenkins said. “It was so much fun to help put on this great event to not only recognize the wonderful women and mothers of our community, but also give back to the philanthropic organizations we supported.”
