Residents and staff of Oak Hammond with chili.

Feb. 24, residents and staff of Oak Hammond, a life plan community in Gainesville, FL, raised funds for the Alzheimer’s Association … with chili.

On National Chili Day, the community held its timely and first-ever Chili Cook-Off, whipping up 16 different types of the dish. All were invited to partake in the donation-only lunchtime event.

Event attendees enjoyed sampling the various recipes, and they voted on their top three favorites. Variations include Lizzy/Spicey Sassy Chili, Morroccan Lamb Chili and Hillbilli Chili, among others, with Chef Jon Goldstein’s New Mexico Style Beef Chili ultimately taking first place.

Not only did the residents and staff concoct tasty chili recipes; they also raised an impressive total of $1,326 for the Alzheimer’s Association.
