Residents of Three Pillars Senior Living Communities in Dousman, WI, have been crafting for a cause this holiday season, and for the past year in general.

The Crocheting & Knitting Group was formed in 2006. Since then, due to popular demand from local nonprofits, group members have knit and crocheted hats, mittens, scarves and other winter apparel to spread warmth to those in need during the holiday season.

Recipients appreciate the donations and look forward to the drop-offs every year.

“I like to add a little color and warmth to the lives of the people who receive the donations,” said Maryanne Wells, a group member.

This year, 14 resident volunteers joined forces to make 1,002 items that they then donated to local nonprofit organizations in December, including the Women’s Shelter, Hope Center, Hebron House, Oconomowoc Free Clinic and Oconomowoc and KM food pantries.

For those interested in supporting their work, yarn donations are accepted year-round.
