Employees at Friendship Retirement Community show off their winnings: some much-needed gas cards!

The employees at Friendship Retirement Community in Roanoke, VA, have an even greater incentive to pick up an extra shift or two this month. Amid the ever-increasing prices at the pump, the senior living and rehabilitation center is giving away 250 gas cards in June.

It’s all in an effort to give back to employees, thank them for their hard work and recognize the pinch inflation and rising prices are placing on everyone these days.

Gas prices began rising after the first of the year but took off in March when the United States and other nations cut off imports of Russian oil following its invasion of Ukraine. On Monday, the average national price for a gallon of unleaded gasoline jumped to $5.014 a gallon — 15 cents higher than a week ago, according to the American Automobile Association.

Friendship team members at both of the community’s locations can enter to win each shift they come to work. Drawings are held Mondays, Wednesdays and Fridays.

“I jumped up and down!” said winner Sybil Terry, “I am grateful that Friendship does this for their employees and think it’s a great incentive.”

The community already has announced 42 winners.

“I was so excited,” winner Deleva Pierson said, “I think it’s really nice that Friendship is doing this, especially with gas prices increasing.”
