A Maryland independent living community recently turned its residents into movie stars and raised money for a local food bank in the process.

Residents of Brightwood Living in Lutherville, MD, participated in a photo shoot throughout the year as a way to lift their spirits during the pandemic. The community matched residents’ personalities with movies for the shoots. Residents dressed up as actors and actresses to recreate posters of big screen classics.

Residents dressed as Marlon Brando from “The Godfather,” Marilyn Monroe from “The Seven Year Itch,” Audrey Hepburn from “Breakfast at Tiffany’s,” and Sandra Bullock and Ryan Reynolds in “The Proposal.”

“The Proposal” movie poster features newlyweds Dutch and Jennie Parr, who met last year at Brightwood. The couple, both in their 80s, married in June.

“The residents, who range in age from 65 to 93, loved their 15 minutes of fame and found it a fun distraction during the pandemic,” Marketing Director Mary Bauer said. “What we love most about this project is it shows that life, with all of its twists and turns, can bring beauty, love and joy at any age.”

The result was a calendar, which the community turned into a fundraiser for the Maryland Food Bank. The $15 calendars sold out in early January.
