When it comes to hot dogs, Spring Hills Somerset Assisted Living, Somerset, NJ, takes them seriously. And in style!

National Hot Dog Day officially may be July 21, but both residents and staff members at the community celebrated the special day early, on July 15, going out with a bang. Randy the Hot Dog Guy brought his hot dog cart, boasting unlimited hot dogs with a plethora of toppings, chips and beverages.

Both residents and staff members alike were pleased with the turnout, community officials said.

“I enjoyed the Hot Diggity Dog Social with the residents, especially since I didn’t know this day existed,” said Trevon Wilson, director of environmental services. “It was good to see the residents enjoying their hot dogs and the live music.”

Event participants also had the option to play an assortment of yard games –– including Jenga, Connect 4, bowling and croquet –– and dance along to musical stylings of the Bill Turner Duo.

Vilam M., a resident at the community, said, “I thought the hot dogs were good. I can’t wait for next year. I hope we have this event again.”
