Residents at Grace Ridge, a Morganton, SC-based continuing care retirement community, kept their feet busy and their minds off Hurricane Florence last week by celebrating National Line Dance Week with a hootenanny.

“We always try to find fun ways to promote a healthy lifestyle, even during difficult situations,” said Kelli Huggins, wellness director at Grace Ridge, which is owned and operated by Carolinas HealthCare System Blue Ridge.

Staff and residents worked hard to prepare for the hurricane. Furniture and belongings on patios, balconies and decks were secured. Generators were tested and found to have a surplus of fuel. Dining services and operations staff planned for situations regarding power outages, water, food and overall safety. Staff members were in contact with North Carolina state government officials regarding their natural disaster policies and preparedness to ensure the safety of both staff and residents.
