The residents of Kendal on Hudson, a Kendal Corp. life plan community in Sleepy Hollow, NY, celebrated National Ice Cream Day how they know best: with their favorite brand, Hershey’s.

The continuing care retirement community recently received the “Golden Scoop Award” from Hershey’s Ice Cream as a token of appreciation for offering an abundance of ice cream on its campus and for its loyalty to the Hershey flavors and brand.

People at Kendal on Hudson consume 48 gallons of ice cream per week, enjoying eight different flavors that rotate week to week at the ice cream station. The crowd favorite is Cappuccino Crunch and Raspberry Road Runner along with Dark Chocolate, said Lois DiStefano, the community’s director of marketing.

Although the winning of the Golden Scoop Award was not announced on National Ice Cream Day — Hershey’s contacted Kendal on Hudson with the good news earlier in the month, to the residents’  “delight and surprise,” DiStefano said — the community received a plaque and congratulations from Hershey’s. The CCRC held a mini-celebration on National Ice Cream Day to mark the moment.

The Golden Scoop Award is presented to the organizations that offer the most Hershey’s Ice Cream, relatively speaking, meaning that the Kendal on Hudson community is among the top consumers of the sweet treat.“They were happy to be recognized for their continued enjoyment of Hershey ice cream!” DiStefano said of residents. “Residents are ice cream-lovers. The [ice cream station] area just calls you to have a scoop!”
