Elizabeth Dibrell, a resident of Alexis Pointe, sets sail on Canyon Lake.

Elizabeth Dibrell, a resident of Alexis Pointe, an assisted living and memory care community in Wimberley, TX, has always had a passion for pirates sailing the seven seas.

Her love for pirates and nautical adventures was ignited when she read “Swallows and Amazons” by Arthur Ransome. Since then, she was hooked — pun intended — and often can be spotted donning a pirate-themed hat and holding a Jolly Roger flag.

Civitas Senior Living, the Fort Worth, TX-based operator of Alexis Pointe, has a signature program called “Miracle Moments” aimed at creating new, exciting memories in each of its communities.

Going sailing had always been on Dibrell’s bucket list, and thanks to a surprise organized by employees of the community, her dream was made into a reality.

Dibrell, some of her family members and an Alexis Pointe employee embarked on a sailing trip on Canyon Lake on Nov. 17, and she reportedly has been all smiles ever since. Although the sailors wished to remain anonymous, the community wanted them to know that they made Dibrell’s dream of going sailing come true and left both her and her family with a wonderful memory.

“It has always been her dream to go sailing,” said Katy Starr, Alexis Pointe community relations director. “Words can’t express how magical the sailing adventure went. Elizabeth loved it.”
