At Salmon Health and Retirement, Northborough, MA, residents recently turned up the music during a “Name that Tune” activity in partnership with Eversound, a provider of resident engagement solutions for senior living communities.

Sherry Champlin, assistant director of resident engagement at Whitney Place at Northborough, and DanThuy Chu, Eversound’s community success manager and programming specialist, assessed residents’ music tastes and created a playlist.

Then, residents listened to songs through headphones and guessed the song and/or artist. Every time a resident guessed correctly, he or she would earn a point. The person with the most points at the end won a prize.

“The residents really enjoyed it,” Champlin said.

Not only was the game a fun way for residents to get together and listen to music, listening to music also has a therapeutic component for those living with Alzheimer’s or other types of dementia. Guessing games also can stimulate the mind.

Regardless of their abilities, all residents were able to participate.

“Using the platform has been really successful in Northborough,” Champlin said. “In addition to fun events and livestreams we’ve used for resident engagement, we’ve also used them during resident council sessions. The platform really increases resident inclusivity and participation.”

Eversound’s listening systems are specifically designed to help older adults hear more effectively, thus improving their engagement in daily activities.
