A total of 149 senior living communities in 36 states are being recognized as “Caring Stars of 2020” by Caring.com, the senior living review and referral website announced this morning.

Caring Stars have been named since 2012. Any licensed senior living community with a profile in Caring’s nationwide directory is eligible for the award from the San Mateo, CA-based website, which serves as a resource for family caregivers. To earn it, communities must have had 10 or more consumer reviews on their listing, with an overall average rating of 4.5 or higher on a scale of 1 to 5, and must have received three or more reviews within the qualifying time frame, including at least one of which had a five-star rating.

Caring says the list represents the top 1% of senior living providers nationwide.

The operators with the most communities on this year’s list are Pacifica Senior Living, with 18 communities; Holiday Retirement, with 13; Senior Village Management, with 11; and Heritage Senior Living and Life Care Services, with 7 each.

Eighteen communities of small-business organizations (typically, those with five or fewer communities) also are represented among the winners.

Fifty-nine communities across 26 states have been named “Caring Super Stars” for having earned Caring Star awards in three or more years since the program’s inception in 2012. That’s up from 55 communities across 23 states last year.

Just as with the lists issued in 2018, 2017 and 2016, three of the states with the highest number of winners this year are California (23 communities), Texas (14 communities) and Florida (10 communities). In this year’s list, however, Michigan ties Texas with 14 communities also. Virginia comes close to Florida, with 8 communities on the list. California has been in the top five since Caring launched Caring Stars in 2012.
