Employees at one of the largest not-for-profit multi-site senior living organizations in the country, Evangelical Lutheran Good Samaritan Society, are receiving a boost in their April paychecks in response to the financial challenges many are facing amidst the COVID-19 pandemic.

The health system announced this week that it will offer a one-time bonus payment to all full-time hourly employees and cover their health insurance for the next three months. A $150 bonus will be given to part-time employees, and PRN employees will receive a $50 addition on their paychecks.

All workers also will have flexible use of paid time off and gain access to an employee crisis fund, which provides financial support to those who experience sudden, emergent and catastrophic financial difficulties.

“The COVID-19 pandemic has had a significant impact on everything we do,” said Randy Bury, president of the Good Samaritan Society. “We owe a debt of gratitude to our frontline caregivers who are protecting the most vulnerable during this time of great need. Our support plan offers much-deserved assistance to our employees. Our staff’s determination to continue to provide the best care to all those we serve has never been more critical.”

Good Sam is the second-largest not-for-profit multi-site senior living and care organization in the country, based on number of total units / beds, according to the 2019 LeadingAge Ziegler 200 list of largest providers. The list also puts the organization at No. 1 in nursing care beds, No. 2 in assisted living units and No. 3 in independent living units of all not-for-profit multi-site senior living and care organizations in the country.
