A new effort launched this week by the National Labor Relations Board aims to educate workers on their rights under the National Labor Relations Act.

The independent federal agency introduced the “Know Your Rights” card series on Tuesday.

“This card series is one of many steps we’re taking to ensure that all workers know their workplace rights and understand that there is a federal agency, the NLRB, that they may seek help from if they feel that their rights have been violated,” NLRB General Counsel Jennifer Abruzzo said in a statement. “The cards will advance the NLRB’s efforts to remove barriers for workers in underserved communities through education, outreach and processes so that all workers can safely access the NLRB.”

The tri-fold “Know Your Rights” cards are being published in English and Spanish.

One card provides information on protections for immigrant workers, sharing that the act protects workers regardless of their immigration status and that all workers have the right to talk about pay and unfair treatment on the job, vote in a union election, join a union or strike. Also, the NLRB will hear complaints without asking about immigration status and will not report findings to the Department of Homeland Security or Immigration and Customs Enforcement, the agency said.

A second card discusses Weingarten rights, which guarantee a union-represented employee the right to be represented during an investigatory interview. Employers violate the National Labor Relations Act when they threaten or retaliate against an employee that has requested union representation, according to the NLRB.

Additional cards will be added to the series throughout the year to educate workers on various rights under the act.
